Deep into my thoughts, I used to visit, spiritually, a place which is so beautiful that no human being has the power to imagine a place like that. Hopar Nagar, a not so famous small valley in Gilgit Baltistan , Pakistan. I am not a superhuman, how am I able to imagine it? This is because I have experience of visiting that place , not only spiritually but physically as well. That visit is not only influencing my thoughts but my behaviour as well because the people over there were so much welcoming to the visitors. I got the chance to explore that place, but how it became possible? It was july 16, 2019, a hot summer day in Lahore. According to our plan, I along with some friends shouldered our bags and departed to Hunza, a town in Gilgit Baltistan. My excitement was so high that the journey of almost 16-17 hours seemed to end in a few moments. Melodic rhythms of Rubab, a traditional musical instrument without which the civilization of Gilgit Baltistan is incomplete, mixed along with the scented breeze took me to the land of ‘Tartary”. That night, during a conversation with one of the tourists in the hotel I came to know about El Dorado, Hopar Nagar, which was in my country, but not known to the 85 percent of the population. My suspicion escalated, I suggested my friends visit that place and they all agreed. Next morning unfolded, as planned, I and my friends headed to “Jewel of the world” Hopar Nagar. Travel ended up in less than two hours, one third in the car and rest of the time, it caught us trekking to the top of the valley. One of most exciting and adventurous trek experiences This trekking route along the mountain had three transitional themes. Initially it was filled with colorful flowers dibbled everywhere, but as I made my trek to the top , the way turned to be all rocky and dust covered my feet. As I reached the top, I had to trek down on the other side of the mountain to have a leap into the unknown. On my way down, those dusty treks were slowly turning into frozen secrets. Temperature was decreasing gradually and my excitement was inversely proportional to it. A shiver ran down my spine when I had first glance of that mystical scenery. I found myself as if I were in Paradise. I stood still for a while and allowed myself to live in a moment ‘Here and Now”. Those infinite landscapes, my sight was just not enough to capture it all. I had a look all around and then I looked back to the people, they all were far behind me. It was just me flowing in the cold breeze, silently, and not to be dramatic but I actually got the picture of how it feels to be alive. There, so many intriguing facts came to my knowledge. Hopar is the only Glacier in the world that is located beneath the populated area. To reach the Glacier you actually have to trek your way down. Along with the alluring vista of the valley, the reception of the natives over there was so loving and welcoming. People of that valley are super fit and active because they are habitual of living in such hard conditions which are usually not bearable for the people living in industrial areas. One of the habits that I took from there is having something sweet to eat in the tea-time. But by sweet I mean barely sweet, because the people of that area share the common habit of having a sweet tooth and like to bake their cupcakes and puff pastries with the least amount of sugar. In a few moments day came to an end and I had to head on my way back to Hunza and the next day we departed for Lahore. Whenever I'm tired, I think about those fascinating moments, it brings smile on my face and whenever I'm angry at anyone I think about the behavior of generous people of Hopar Nagar, it helps me overcome my anger. I wish I could spend a little more time there.
