When you think about Japan, what do you expect? Last December, while planning my honeymoon, I read a lot of traveling guides and surviving tips for this country. I was excited about getting to know a whole different world but at the same time I was a little bit nervous about that same thing. When we arrived we were shocked, the order in the streets, the silence in the subway, the way we felt safe walking outside at 2 am... just wow! A completely different world from our hometown, Mexico. But all that is what you expect by just reading any traveling guide. What we found out was that Japan was much more than just technology and ancient human civilizations. We came to a country where a very few people speak English, and almost none of them Spanish, but they are all willing to help you in any possible way if they notice you need help. We came to a country where an atomic bomb destroyed 2 whole cities and those cities are completely restored like nothing happened. We were amazed by how streets are so clean because people take their trash to their homes, there are no trash cans on the streets. We were in a country where I lost my wallet at the Imperial palace in Tokyo and when I went back, almost crying, my wallet was in a bench with all my money and cards inside like nothing happened. What I didn't expect to find was the people... Japanese people is what I was most impressed of all. Of course Japan is a beautiful country with nature spots like Hakone, historic places like Kyoto, and impressive cities like Tokyo and Osaka. Their trains are fast and always on time and their food is completely different and delicious. But any of these things are as good as their people. Japan was a very pleasant surprise and Japanese people are the reason I will be willing to go back any time. Xoxo, Eugenia
