Over the summer I applied for a job in France which consisted of being the face of a gaming channel for an American company in Paris. Upon getting the job I was given a week to pack up everything and move to France, it was flustering to say the least but believe it or not I smashed it. My mum drove me to the airport and this was the beginning of what I believed was going to be the start of a new life. After landing, about 5 minutes of being off the plane and In a new country I had the absolute pleasure of a lovely man trying to rob me whilst leaving the airport, I caught him red handed with a hand in my bag and had to tell him where to go if you get my drift. Nevertheless this was not going to ruin my trip so onwards and upwards I thought however here is the really fun part, I decided to travel without a working phone, all I had was an address in a note book for the place I was staying and I was in a country where barely anyone would speak English to me, it was hard to say the least. With just this notebook and an address I some how made it to the air bnb in which I was staying. It was a fairly good price but little did I know I was about to enter a more or less crack den with cockroaches and people with apparently no hygiene standards. This set my standards for my first day in France pretty low, but the weather was gorgeous so find your silver linings people. Upon arriving and getting as settled as I could I decided to explore the city and in all fairness to Paris it is a beautiful city and luckily for me I was there during solstice which in France is a big street festival and it was crazy. I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely gal on my travels and she took me to this festival with her friends and we drank wine and ate cheese on the embankment and there’s been very few times I’ve experienced absolute bliss but I have to say this was one of them, great weather and great company. Moving forward I was excited to start my new job however a few days before starting I received an email letting me know that I wouldn’t be starting for another month as the building still wasn’t ready. This definitely wasn’t an ideal situation as Paris is expensive and I was pretty tight with money but I thought it’s a big city and I have so much to see so hey ho let’s do it. The first thing I went to see as any tourist would was the Eiffel Tower and when I say it’s big... it’s big. I didn’t expect there to be so many stairs and I didn’t expect it to be so high (especially as I have an irrational fear of heights) but it truly is a spectacle I think everyone should see at some point I’m there life. Whilst in France I got to see some beautiful museums and buildings and eat delicious food (although wine seems to taste the same wherever you go). I met a rag tag team of friends whilst out there one American and the other french both with interesting qualities and by interesting qualities I meant one carried a knife in his bag and the other loved to steal but in a new country you take what you can get I guess. Upon this company messing me about I decided it was time to leave France and return home however I couldn’t be bothered to airport it so I thought I’ll take the bus, easy reads and all that. Me being me, an absolute moron was so excited for that Starbucks I have a weird attachment to in London that I forgot my luggage on the coach... they were kind enough to return my luggage to Paris with everything I own in it. Let’s just say I never saw that suitcase again.
