Recently, I took a trip to a village Penwyllt near Swansea. The village was picturesque and green and I could see small girls playing in the field. The sky covered the green fields like a black tomb and the icy cold winds went through my hair and made my cheeks cold. We saw the SWCC and decided to go for caving. None of us had done that before and we went inside and registered and we got a guide as those were the deepest caves of Wales and without a guide we would never have been able to come out. The guide had the exact same voice as the driver in the Jumanji who welcomes the team in the game and we couldn't stop flipping about it. He introduced us to the caves and gave us basic instructions like do not touch the areas beyond the ribbons as they are sealed. Little did we know that it was so much more than we had actually thought and they weren't just easy caves we would go and walk through. We wore our uniform and the caving helmet with lights on it and had the mandatory photoshoot. We started walking uphill and as we reached halfway we were exhausted. The outfits weren't very comfortable and we still hadn't entered the cave. All of us were doubtful if we could actually go and walk inside. Yes, walking is all we had thought of. We had to crawl inside as it was a small, heavy metal gate and we couldn't lean of the gate. The small square opening made my blood rush and heart gush. It was pitch black inside and the lights on the helmet made our path visible. There were massively huge rocks ahead of us and we had to climb our way on the rock which was intimidating. There were multiple disfigured rocks which we either had to slide down from our hold it for support while climbing the other rock or climb onto. Soon , my excitement turned into fear of death as I had already injured my knee and my back by slipping. We heard the sound of water and that made me feel better. The suit was uncomfortable and it was darker and tougher than before, There was a small stream in the middle and on either sides were huge rocks and we had to cross it. We couldn't step down into the water so we decided to spread our legs and put our foot on the either sides and take support and walk. As each person crossed they had a rope tied on their back, just incase they fell. As we crossed each stage, it grew harder and the man kept guiding us. I wanted to quit this game after we started crawling as there was just enough space for us to lie down and drag ourselves through out the path. We came in the middle and decided to take a snack break where everyone turned their helmet lights off and started talking about death. I had always imagined death to be like that -pitch black and hearing screaming noises and not able to see or touch anyone. It is said in caves we tend to hear voices of screaming and after a point our brain starts hallucinating. We started on our way out and I couldn't be more exhausted mentally and physically. After falling down multiple times and crawling and dragging myself, I saw the daylight through the square entrance and I had enev imagined that icy cold wind and the green lush grass and the open skies would look so good and I would value it so much as somewhere inside the cave we all thought that we would never make it out in the open.
