In december of 2017, my wife and I traveled to Czech Republic. It was a peroid of Christmas season. In the central old square of Prague, there was a very famous Christmas market. Threre they sold a czech sweet called trdelnik. We were very curious about this specific item of czech gastronomy as a way to get acquainted with czech language. Our first language is portuguese that is a very different languge from czech. So I asked a young czech girl how was the correct way of pronouncing trdelnik. She gently explained to me the correct pronounciation of trdelnik. After that, it became easier to learn another words and greetings in czech. The most surprising thing was the reception when we tried to communicate in czech even if the portuguese accent was evident in the pronounciation. Therefore, we realized that language is one of the keys to understand a different culture from our own. Every country we visited is a fabulous opportunity to be closer to another way of thinking and living. Because of that, I'm very interested to go to many countries around the wolrd and report to people the marvelous experience of being in touch with interesting parts of the mankind scattered in the planet earth.
