Komodo Island Imagine yourself in a tropical island with so many adventures lying ahead. How do you feel? Excited? Yes of Course! That’s what I feel when I visited this special island, Komodo Island. Why is it special? Because it is one of the new Seven Wonders of Nature. Located in Indonesia, you can reach the place from Jakarta or Bali. If you wonder about the things to do in there, there are so many, from the beach, trekking, snorkeling, interact with the locals, and of course see the Komodo. Komodo is a reptile, species of lizard found in Indonesia. I traveled there with my friends. What made the trip more special is I got to live onboard (like a cruise), because there are many adventure places to visit and there are far apart. First, I visited Kelor Island, here I did short hiking to the top of the hill. It was steep hill, although it took quite stamina to get on top. It’s worth it. There was really a picturesque view lying ahead. I saw an array of mountains and the ocean. I went there in September, it was dry season, so the mountain appeared brownish color. If in rainy season, it will be in green color. Down there, I saw the white sandy beach and the crystal water. Then I hiked down again and I took pictures with my friends using drone (This was amazing, everybody made a circle and walk hand in hand and the drone flew around us). After that, I went to the point of highlight of the trip, Rinca and Komodo Island National Park to see the Komodo. It was exciting to see the animals that had been declared as One of Seven Wonders of Nature. Everybody/group who wanted to enter the park must be accompanied by a ranger. The Ranger briefed us, “Stay with the group and don’t get too close with the Komodo as they can run in high speed. Also please don’t make any sudden move” Sound scary right? But as long as everyone kept the distance and listen to what the ranger said, it’s safe to see them and took pictures. The Ranger got a special stick to hold the Komodo just in case in need. I got amazing pictures with it, there seemed that I was very close to it but actually there was a great distance between the Komodo and me. It was a cool picture, seemed like I conquered the animal (Hahaha in my dream because I am not that kind of Princess of Warrior). Then I walked around the National Park, I still saw a few younger Komodo. The Ranger said, “The younger ones usually climbed up a tree in the evening, that was why it was not wise to climb a tree during Komodo chase (if that happened)”. I also saw deer, which was the natural source of food for the Komodo. The Komodo roam freely to find their own food (part of the reason also that the reptile animal not become lazy). Before going back to the ship, I went trekking, up to a hill and saw beautiful view, the blue color of the sea combined with the horizon and trees at further of the hill, it was a refreshing view. I bid farewell with the ranger and I could not wait for the next destination, Bat Island. It is the place where usually people see the sunset and the bats flying out of the island. The ship reached near the island and I wait for a few minutes for the sunset and for the bats flying out. I was delighted to see the view, the combination of pink orange sunset color combine with the bats flying out is a unique view that I don’t see frequently. After all the bats flying out and the sun goes down, I had dinner on the ship. That was a whole day of adventure and it was a magnificent day. This was really an amazing journey as I had a lot of memorable experiences. There are still plenty things I would like to write; I hope I have the opportunity to share more of the wonderful stories.
