I only do true stories and here’s one for you! Easter 2019 me and a great travel friend of mine Oli go to Ghana for two weeks mainly cause the flights were cheap and why wouldn’t you want to go to the laNd of the black stars. We land in Accra to absolutely appalling weather, our taxi driver the next day explained 4 people died from the weather that day alone in Accra due to heavy rain and their poor drainage system as we saw on labadi beach where all the raw sewage from the capital gets pumped directly into the sea! LaBADi by name and nature. 2 days in Tottenham were playing Man City in the champions league both of us a massive football fans not of these particular teams but football in general thought let’s go out to watch the game, so we jump in a taxi and ask our man where to watch the game so off sets the battered Yaris burning it around James Town a historic water front suburb of Accra driving past young lads playing 11 a side on dust pitches and everyone wearing there football colours. big Barcelona, Man Utd fan base out in west Africa apparently, until Michael (our driver) pulls up into tiny bar above a restaurant I have never in my life seen so many people crammed into one space the room was stifling with the mix of 400 football fans and the relentless Ghanian heat, humidity must be 90-100% out there this tune of year aswell. we were meet by the proprietor to show us in giving people friendly slaps and moving two guys to give us front row seats!!! For the cool price of 2 cedis bargain!! Now the atmosphere in that room was electric the room which was full of young men with every football shirt a different a team but were all there for the same reason European football these guys love it! Jumping up and down screaming at every decision arguing with each other squaring up! It was intense but interestingly not one person in there was drinking alcohol expect for the two front row guys (us) that was it for us whilst. Travelling around Ghana for the next two weeks we stopped of everywhere we could when the football was on. We watched the 2nd leg in a tent in the shadow of the biggest waterfall in west Africa wli waterfall, which is a must we hired a local guide to take us up to the top with stunning views of the wil area and on the the other side views into Togo. Watched Man Utd on the east coast of Ghana in axim where the beaches were to die for, this game we found our selfs watching it in the court yard of a church and school with whole families mingling together yams being cooked out in the open baby goats running around washing hanging over our heads and with our trusty taxi driver chilling behind us watching with he’s mates. If you were to ask me to this day watching the game down your local or traveling around one of the friendliest countries on earth with amazing people And sights around every corner then there is always going to be one answer Ghana a country of champions!
