Yes, I have travelled to almost every corner of the planet and my goodness each one is truly magnificent. Been roaming around the world in my mind for at least twenty years and that is the beauty of my travel adventures. They have been taking place more within than without and I have undoubtedly indulged and continue to. In 2017 I found myself at the edge of Egypt right on the Red Sea where the palm trees do not have roots and instead are just placed there to create a feel of realism. Sharm El Sheikh is in fact one of my “without” adventures and I did actually watch the sun disappear a few hours before what I’m used to in Cape Town, my home town. You will not believe my continuous captivation with the universal time difference that exists. I’m convinced it’s because I don’t understand how it truly works, and why should I? It would probably spoil my fascination, can’t let that happen. How did I get to Egypt in the first place? Time and space moved people, circumstances and events for this real journey to materialize. I’d even dreamed about it about two weeks before my departure from Cape Town International airport. But of course that’s another story for another moon, and like all my peculiar dreams I typed it out and archived it in my emails so that I may dissect and make sense of it. I hadn’t chosen to go there, at least not consciously. It must have been my deepest desire to end up in the edge of nowhere that was somehow aligned with the ‘three sisters’’ and landed me right where I needed to be. What was waiting for me in Sharm was heaven on earth. A desert, some fake palm trees along a dark blue sea. I loved it. The heatwave, the ancient style architecture, my humble cab driver and the exotic food that gave me a tummy bug for days. It was just what I needed at the time. Absolute perfection. I checked into a suite that had a bathroom as huge as my bedroom back home. It had tall mirrors on every wall and doubled my stature up I enjoyed the extra company. This was luxury for a village princess like myself and I basked in it. I tend to enjoy outdoor adventure more than the cliché and fancy travel style. I would be happy hiking or biking and end up snoozing under a tree in a sleeping bag, but this was different. It was extra, exaggerated and that’s what made it a unique experience. So I spent 5 nights in Sharm and wished it could never end. I swam alone at the beach, took selfies with Chinese strangers, greeted the birds hanging on the fake palm trees, drank non-alcoholic beverages and tasted all the food I’d never come across in my life before. I was a total tourist and enjoyed every minute of it. My next travel destination will have snow – I’m addicted to ice to a point that I consume it. Imagine feasting on all that snow. Imagine.
