It was my first time in Mexico. I think a lot of people have many stereotypes about these country--tequilla, drugs, men in sambrero and corn. But Mexico is much deeper, it's unique planet with a wise attitude to death, incredibly bright colors and open people. who maintained their Native American culture through time. We came to the city of Oaxasa for a number of reasons-- here is one of the most colorful cities and states in Mexico, here is an incredible celebration Dia de los muertos ( the week when the Mexicans remember the dead relatives). In Oaxaca you can see a lot of people with terrible makeup, they look like Death, sceletons or Santa Catarina ( dead bride). Mexicans have special tradition, special type of communication with death. They flirt with her, joke with her, for them, understanding death changes their attitude to life. They bake special bread and bring it to the cemetery to remember. Every day there were street parades in the city-- with Native American traditional dances, trumpets, and children's tricks. Everybody, even the dogs, were dressed in costumes. And from October 31 to November 1, we decided to go to the cemetery. Do you think it's strange for european tourist? No no no. It's not quite as dramatic as you imagined! The whole area of the cemetery is decorated with fresh flowers and candles, the aroma so wonderful that you get to the temple. Relatives sit around the graves. Families come to all generations, tell family stories, are open to conversations, sounding guitars. These are bright memories. We were absolutely amazed. Mexicans are able to make beauty absolutely from everything: clothes, holidays, altars and Dia de los Muertos. The city is spread out among the mountains, one of which, Monte Alban, has been a pyramid complex for thousands of years. That's why you are. as if in several eras at the same time. Oaxaca lives in own rhythm-- where locals feed the dogs and no one gets annoyed, where you forget about sleep and join a night parade, where you are enchanted to hear prayers at a Catholic temple and you also miss the words on the pyramids, who saw quite different Mexico. Oaxaca is about origins, our real senses, natural way of living.
