Hey there! My dear friend, with this letter you will be part of a small and interesting experiment. The thing is that I decided to try bottle mail and put this text in the bottle. Now it is sailing in Dnipro. I have written the aim of the experiment at the end of my story. We have only one rule - you must read it after finishing the main text. Below you can see an unforgettable story of my life. I need to tell you that it was hard to choose only one story, because I went hitchhiking through Bulgaria, crossed the border to Serbia with Turkish truck driver and had many other crazy moments. So here I am, sitting in the night near McDonalds in another country, almost without money and place to go. You know, life is not always about predictable things. How did I get here? Well, I will tell you everything from the very start. Some time ago I decided to make radical changes in my life and found an opportunity for a two-month volunteering program in Bulgaria. It had a lot of advantages such as full coverage of all costs by European Union (Erasmus+). And only one disadvantage – I really didn’t know what actually was expected for me. "Hmm, sounds cool"- I thought and applied. During the volunteering me and two Armenian girls bought train tickets to Burgas. Everything was really nice, until the moment when the train stopped in a small village because of the fire on the rails. All the people went out and we waited for busses to come and pick us up. Luckily, we had a good mood and something to eat (I don’t even know what is more important). I enjoyed my time and didn’t think that we would have some problems . After a long time of waiting, the bus came and we were finally going to our destination. It was a really happy moment of going out of the middle of nowhere. That was only the start of our adventures, because we went to the city 4 hours later than we planned and a booked hotel was already not available. It was approximately 11:30 pm. It was dark and we didn’t have any place to go. Sounds not so cool, but when you see working restaurants in the center, you are quite calm. We tried to find a hostel and we found it, but the price was high. As I downloaded google maps and there were other hostels, girls suggested to find another one. One hour later we realized that you don’t always need to trust offline maps and most of the places don’t even exist. It was something about 1 a.m. and at that moment I already started getting nervous. There was nothing open: no hostels, restaurants or at least anything. Only the homeless on the streets. And yes, we didn’t have Internet. Our only option was the bus station. There were metal chairs, which are so uncomfortable and cold, trust me. But on a positive note – it was safe, there was free Internet and it was warmer than staying outside. But guess what? Happy times finished when the bus station closed. In Ukraine it works 24/7, so I was shocked that we need to leave. Just imagine, 3 a.m. and three girls are standing next to the closed bus station. Homeless man passed by and I even envied him for a bit: he had warm clothes and I didn’t. I had planned going to the seaside, why should I’ve taken them? It was magic, but we found the Internet and one working 24/7 restaurant – McDonald’s 9 km from us. So here I am, sitting at 4 a.m. near McDonald’s as it is closed inside in the night. I’m cold, but with my sleeping mind I understand only one thing - going to that volunteering was the best decision which I’ve ever made. That are my young years. Crazy. Emotional. Happy. P.s. And yeah, the main sense of the experiment is to see, who will be first on Caribbean– me or the bottle.
