Great and mysterious things have been said about the Island of Malta. Some say the island has a soul and a heart which makes it comes alive when it sees tourist. However, to critiques like myself, these claims are unsubstantiated and pass a myths. Hence to satisfy my curiosity and set the records straight I decided to take a leap into the unknown. After all that’s what we explorers are noted for. Little did I know that the greatest surprise awaited me at these islands? I bet you are itching to hear about my quest. If so then, come along with me on this journey as we travel all the way to Malta Island. But first let me tell you what you are likely to find out about this place when you search for the name on the internet. Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean between Silcily and North African Coast. It’s a Nation known for historical sites. Related to succession of rulers including the Romans, Moors, and Knights of Saint John, French and British. It has numerous fortresses, megalithic temple and the Saflieni Hypogeum, a subterranean complex of halls and burial chambers dating to circa 4000 B. C” . And the ranting continues. All these are not lies or should I say, they are not the opposite of the truth. However, I believe the deeper truths are well known when we commit to visit the place ourselves. The good news is I have myself, well not alone but with a special one, but hey, since I don’t wish to be selfish I will share with you. Shall we then say together; “Malta!! Here we come!. Though the ride might have been a very long one and the turbulence very high we still made our way through the skies to the land of Malta. The most fascinating first impression I have ever had in all my exploration was of how this island was surrounded by Azure seas and clear blue skies that looks so clear and beautiful. It was simply magical and indescribable. Another relic that created a lasting impression was Valletta. ( An Ancient building) The Valletta was visible across the skyline and this makes it so eye catching, the building is huge and colorful decorated with opulent gilded and a baroque architecture to reflects knights. Stature as aristocrats from noblest families as this was the original abode of the knights. Well according to history, the Valletta is known as city built by gentlemen for gentlemen which once became the new military fortress of the other of Saint John. Still under the influence of the influence of the hypothetically acclaimed opium, we stroll along the streets taking pictures of some beautiful site and small farms filled with people harvesting crops. Making our way up the hills was tough exercises. At a point, I was exhausted and wanted to give up but the special one had to carry me on his back up to the hills. Gozo was the destination this time. We were privileged to know that the name of Gozo meant “ sleepy ambience “ and so mysteriously comes to life during summer, holidays, and festivals. Our mission was to see how small it is and how high it’s mountain is. We actually might met lovely people who introduced us to the chief and he told us a brief history about Gozo. As a plus we were treated to a good indigenous meal cooked by the villagers. To people like us with foreign acquired taste the meal still lived up its name “ Stuffat tal fenek” which was explosion of tastes. My leap to the unknown turned out to be awesome experience and my encounters brought me out of the darkness of lack of knowledge into a full 6/6 vision of a virtually untreated terrain. As it’s always said, an element of surprise is a great spice of life.
