July 2019 mixed feelings took over my mind as I boarded Iberia Airlines 3340 to Marrakech Im not going to lie I actually was scared even though Morocco was in my top 10 countries to visit list I still didn’t know what to expect with no real step to step itinerary set we took off with little to know that Morocco will soon steal my heart. Traveling is something I know well with Morocco being country number 11 id visit but this was my first time in Africa and a Arabic country, With only 4 nights and 3 days we didn’t waist time, After checking in to our beautiful Airbnb in the heart of the Medina we took off to the Jama El f’na Market a 24 hour market to locals and tourists full of literally anything you can imagine from beautiful handcrafted candle lamps to various types of oils that locals swear are remedies to all sorts of things id never thought you could purchase, but our main goal at the moment was food, with many options to go around we settled for a local stand in the side of a market that sold couscous chicken and bread for under 2 USD. The next day we woke up to the muezzins which is a alarm that reminds all the Muslims in the town that its time for prayer, as we headed out we made talk with some French tourist that would later become some amazing friends that we still keep in contact with till today, they recommend us with some places to go. We started of getting breakfast in the Medina, fresh fruit and juice with Moroccan pancakes, that gave me crepe vibes just a little thicker you can’t go wrong. After breakfast we headed to La Mamounia a castle in Marrakech that the royals lived in for many years and now is opened to the public to stay and exhibit, A true piece of art that I cant explain in words it was so inspiring so peaceful we spent a good majority of the time in the garden just reading and taking in the moment after that we headed to the center to meet up with some new local friends that we made in the Airbnb the night before. We attended a local tea ceremony, apparently the higher they pour the tea the more welcomed you are. Walking around central Medina is really a cultural shock of how different a 1 hour and 30 min airplane ride can change your worlds, the people are so convincing of you to buy stuff and I was all in for it, and did i learn bargain in the markets we’d start 500 MAD and end up paying 250 MAD, We all meet up at night in a balcony restaurant with a view of the whole city where I had some of the best Tajine I’ve ever had. By this point in my trip I had honestly started to fall in love with Morocco and its people not only was the country beautiful but the culture and people where so loving and warm they truly made me feel welcomed and loved and I think that adds a-lot to a country we also visited YSLs house in Marrakech thats a beautiful garden and museum now for tourists and locals we took a horse ride through the old Medina. I wish i could write more about how I feel in love with Morocco so unexpectedly how I can’t wait to go back and explore more Im happy I decided to leave my comfort zone and try something new like Morocco. I truly didn’t expect to find so many amazing loving people in Morocco.
