A JOURNEY WITH MY DAD TO NSUKKA, ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA. This story is a true life story. It is a story of my life The story that touches and inspires the weak mind! The theme of my story is “a leap into the unknown’’ On the 19th of August, 2019, my dad and I embarked on a journey to Nsukka, Enugu State. My first time ever to travel to one of the cities in the south eastern part of Nigeria. Our mission was to seek for an academic transfer to the University Of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in order to continue and complete my medical studies and also getting necessary treatment for my disabled left arm.. As the humiliation and discrimination from some of my lecturers in my current school, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna Stateis depressing. They advised me to withdraw from medical school in my final year, because of my impaired left arm. It was a really nasty, frustrating and emotional journey from my home town, Ikirun to Nsukka! Though, I do travel to long distance places, especially to the Northern region of Nigeria, precisely Kaduna state, Bauchi state, Niger state , Abuja, but my journey to Nsukka was a different one. As a matter of fact, I would not think of going to that far journey, especially to a different ethnic group, different society and different people with different cultural and traditions from me but I have no choice. I have to go! ‘’Get set Malik, we are about to take off’’ said my dad. My dad, had no choice than to travel with me. He was also scared of the south eastern part of Nigeria, perharps, due to some scaring stories in the region. And also being my first time, he volunteered to travel with me. As a young man, I always believe that I can always make local connections with new people. Making local connections as always be my main target when travelling to far and new places. These connections have always help me and making a breakthrough for me. The bus took off as early as seven (7) a.m in the morning from Ikirun, a local town in Osun State to Ore, a town in Ondo State, a 4 hours journey. As we could not get a direct bus going to Nsukka, we had to break the journey into four stages. From ore, we entered a bus going to Benin, and from Benin, we entered another bus to Onitsha. And finally, from Onitsha to Nsukka. All together, we spent 15 hours on the road. We were so tired and exhausted and hungry and stranded. One scary thing that I happened to me was when we get to a place called Upper Aweka, in Onitsha, immediately after the bridge. I might have lost my sight by now because of the bad incident. ‘ hey!! ‘ shouted , a police man ,talking to the driver taking us to the park. The police man had earlier demanded for twenty (20) naira from the driver as part of his usual and daily personal taxation. Unfortunately for the police man, the driver ignored him and drove passed him. Instead to let him go, he angrily hit the side mirror of the bus, very close to where I sat. I actually sat in the front . after hitting the mirror, the mirror broke into pieces, smashing the mirror particles to my face. Luckily for me,they did not penetrate into my eyes. We finally arrived at the park in Onitsha around 4.30 p.m. I felt like crying but manage to look happy. I felt so sorry for stressing my poor dad who suppose to be in his work place. We arrived to Nsukka around 11.30p.m. The journey from Onitsha to Nsukka was terrible and discouraging. The road was bad, the bus was stuffy and we were tired. Getting to Nsukka, we took a bike to UNN, where will lodged in a hotel to passed the night! Nothing holds greater power in our life than the Unknown. We leap into the unknown, and we experienced new life and experience. At the end, I made new friends, new connections and new experiences. Thanks for Listening to my Story. God bless.
