Our pink bus was driving on lonesome roads through the wilderness of Tanzania towards the city life in Dar Es Saalam. Two days before we had left the ”Hakuna Matata” feeling at Kande Beach in Malawi where locals Mr Slim Shady and Mr Popcorn where our great friendly hosts. Since all my Malawi-money turned into beers - cheers, were off to new adventures. Five hours later were crossing the border to Tanzania. Karibu! Ten more ours and we reached our destination for the night called Crocodile Camp, it was more like scorpion camp. Dead and alive. We survived the night on the roof of our bus, totally scorpion free. On the 15th day of my great African adventure - something unexpected but still expected happened. Something I been dreaming for all my life. I was sitting close to one of the windows in the back of the bus, the wind was touching my face when I suddenly saw something big and grey running in the trench on the left side of the road. It was an elephant butt! A baby elephant butt! It disappeared as fast as it appeared. But I saw it and got so lucky I started crying and called my mom. Everyone on the bus had a good laugh… In the middle of nowhere, our pink bus went out of gas. Luckily we were prepared for that kind of emergency. After one long hot hour that also turned into lunch, we were back on the road spotting more elephants. But I will never forget my first one.
