It was a total life experience from the country I left. In 2004, I decided to travel to South Africa for various reasons such as adventure, culture, stress relief, exposure, but I saw and learnt the unknown. The trip was perfect and interesting. The country was organized, cleaned and most especially everyone follows order accordingly. I did not expect to find some certain facilities functioning perfectly but to my surprise they were. In Nigeria, where the electricity is not always available by our power holding electricity supply. In South Africa, the electricity was constant without blinking and learnt that it always stays on. Secondly, I moved around the community I stayed and also noticed the quality facilities used for the road for transport. The road was properly constructed and with working traffic lights. There was a time when the traffic lights were not functioning, I thought I was going to see the road jammed but I also observed that there are no traffic police controllers. To my surprise, I saw an orderly driving where each driver obeys 4ways stopped code and I said to myself these can never happened in Nigeria. The citizens are friendly, most especially the white people and some blacks. Some of the blacks are too jealous once they see a black foreigner. I noticed that majority of the South African blacks lived in so called "location ". I took a trip to some of the locations and there was a complete difference from where the white communities. In the location, you will see, majority of blacks jobless, smoking and drinking. I came back to Nigeria and went back after some months for more adventures. When I got there, I decided to take up a Mathematics and Science teaching job with Gauteng Department of Education, South Africa and South African Mathematics Foundation. I had a great experience because I taught both in surburb and location but I had most of my teaching experience with the blacks. During my teaching, I saw school girls of under 15 years old coming to school with pregnancy, I was surprised but later I spoke to one of the staff and was told that it was part of the school policy to allowed them in school and not chase them away. I said to myself, this can never happen in Nigeria. South Africa has 11 official languages, this makes me embraced and understood their different behavioural cultures. I have to learn most of the languages so that I would be able to teach and communicate with them not only during teaching and learning. It was a great experience that I did not know I am leaping in. I also had a great time to explore there food and how to make them because I spent most my time around them and became part of them. South Africa is a beautiful country to visit and explore but I need to also talk about the crime and xenophobic attacks. As I said earlier that they are too jealous. They believe that the black foreigners have come to their country to take up their jobs, wives and corrupt their culture. I saw quite some things when I was there that I could agreed with their behaviour but there way of approach is completely wrong by killing their fellow brothers and sisters from other countries. This things were done by the black South African only. There was an incident that there police was also supporting them, that was when a Mozambique citizen was handcuffed to a police van and dragged on the road until he dead. Apart from the unknown incidents and behaviours, which other countries also have but might not be as terrible as South Africa, the country is beautiful to visit and explore with great love experience. I enjoyed my stay and make sure I did not step out of my boundary by leaping into unknown.
