I dropped out from university in second year studying philosophy. Thus, I was the best student in my department, and I never flunked any subject, but I had no choice than to drop out to look for a job. Education is a powerful tool that everyone should have but what of if the world you live does not value that education. I was not a writer but my sufferings had turned me into one. When I heard that most Africans that have gone to Europe are living a luxury life over there, I began to be weary of migrating, and, having nothing such as money and connection to fulfil my desire, I despaired and I hope to overcome the crisis I am going through in my native country. What would my parents if I go to Europe? My brothers were young and it was my responsibility to take of them. Being a polyglot have given me a value and many opportunities in my community. We were taught French and English, which is our official language in school. Although, my native language is Yoruba but we consider it as a vernacular. It was glooming cold evening in winter when a French woman entered a play station where my friends and I were playing game. Vousparlez francais? ` She says.” No one could answer her among my friends because it was very odd to them because they always expect all foreigners to speak Lingua Franca. Je parle francais, ` I said.” This French woman was old, but she looked young, with grey hair, wearing hat. She told me she was a business woman, exporting and importing goods into many countries. I have travelled to many countries and I know how sustenance is over there comparing to your country. I am aware that the dream of African youths is to migrate to Europe. I will take you to France if you can provide thirty more people among your friends and relatives, ` she says.” I did not know her intention for asking me to provide more people but I had no second thought, than to follow her instruction. We were colonized by these people but we still believe there is no future unless you pursue it in their countries, which is another colonization. When we mentioned Europe, we thought it was a paradise. Europe is a paradise that once you are there you can have anything you wish for. A week later when I have decided to follow her to France, I told my brothers to prepare that we are going for a short trip they should not tell our parent. To come, then, by illustration to the interpretation of this part of my story, you might have the feelings that I am heartless for leaving my parent behind in that condition which you can describe me as unfilial son in your analysis. I definitely believe you would take the same decision if you put yourself in my shoes. On Saturday, we embarked on this long journey that I might not return from. Our ship is big about three hundred- and thirty-tons burden, carried more than forty people, thirty among them are my friends and neighbors that I took with me. In each angle in this boat, they were white men guiding us. This desperate voyage on the boat with strangers makes me feel that I am heading toward my destruction. An hour before our arrival, these white men started putting fetters in our hands and legs. I tried to fight back saying what is our offense for them to be treating us like slaves. Unexpectedly, I was shut down at back and I remember that I slept almost all the day. I woke up in dungeon alone searching for my people. I now regret leaving my native country where I could feel the hot sun and see the beauty of sky anytime I want. If my country is going through crises does not mean it would never overcome them. I am thirty-year-old man from Lagos whose his future was destroyed by dilemma. We were taken to a big palace to work as slaves when our intention was to come here to live a better life.
