As someone who has a passion for travelling, and had never stepped foot on a plane before these moments, this trip was truly an eye opener. My first step into the never - sleeping city of New York lit a fire of energy I hadn't experienced before. The buzz of the city, the lights, the people. I come from a very tiny place in the middle of nowhere, Toronto being the largest city I had experienced thus far. My hometown maybe had 2000 people, at most, and the place I lived was 35 minutes away from anything. So, of course, I explored. My hotel was near Times Square, appropriate I'd think for my first trip. I had chosen to go on the off season, when the weather was still crisp and the tourists weren't as saturated. I tried food, talked to people, took endless photos and went into so many shops my wallet was crying by the end of the first day. Easily my favorite experience was going to Grand Central Station and taste testing the bagels and apple strudels there. They don't lie when they say New York has the best bagels. Soft, crunchy, fresh and delicious, it's making my mouth water as I write this! I loved seeing the diversity of people in such a 'small' area that was Times Square. Anywhere you look you'd see someone unique, or a different vendor, or a mascot waiting for their next cameo. Being in the city lit such a passion in me it's almost difficult to explain. I could sense the opportunity there, the skills and craftsmanship that I ran across turning every corner made my brain whirr in excitement. The difference between living next to horses and walking through the streets of New York was mind blowing to me. All I can say, is that I want to go back. I want to travel, everywhere, and experience more that life has to offer. I'm so glad I stepped on that plane.
