On a budget.

I didn't expect to find Croatia

Most budget travel gem hunters know the journey can sometimes be hit and miss. Especially as a solo gem finder. And like most budget travel hunters know, time is of the essence; when you find a gem, you scream with elation, book it immediately and worry about the rest later. That was my last gem find. Pula Croatia. Obviously as a budget travel gem hunter I often scawer the internet for endless hours in periless search of the next adventure. This one happened immediately, I had a thought "I need to go somewhere", the net was cast, skyscanner our dearest companion is always first, and there she was, cheap as cheddar cheese, pula: Croatia. With the dates I had free! How are is that? Snapped that gem up immediately. Now normally I would of course travel sardine style with easyjet or Ryanair, only praying as I board that I am not sitting next to a methane machine, no children are being forced into this metal flying cage and not too many of my fellow herd had too much fun "prepping" for the more fun ahead. So that I can get some short lived yet knocked flat out snooze. This however was budget British airways, which felt like I was on an Emirates first class in comparison. Haven't been on Emirates first class? Neither have I. But I imagine to be travelling royalty. This was a sign, I thought, as if the universe had opened its arms for an embrace. Anyway I was too comfortable to sleep, I stared at those tempting pillow like clouds until we arrived. As I stepped off the plane, I felt lighter. A short taxi ride from the airport to my hotel, a quick check in and guided tour to my room (yes I budget but i either treat myself on the first or last hotel as I journey), bags down, fastest shower change and the adventure was on, in my travelling skin I was home. I lost time, I got lost in capturing moments, and realised by capturing them I was not fully living them so I stopped. I smiled lots and jumped around, danced on piers and visited islands. Witnessed swams and colonies of jelly fish taking refuge on the shores of the the Croatian beaches. Was i encouraged to jump just a little further and enjoy the waters, my need for survival outweighed my bravery that time. I was introduced to the saint mother of Rovinj, and a sad story she has if ever there was one. For those five days, I thrived. I didn't expect to find my truth. Which is; Travelling is a survival mechanism. Exploration is a necessity. Discovery is recovery. Travelling is not a luxury, it is a sacrifice. A luxury would be living in one place all of my life; self aware, content and loving without wanting, Without that itch, Without settling, Without wanting to blow my brains out.
