Peace of summer

Making a local connection Greece

I had the opportunity to travel with my best friend to different countries during the summer of 2019. One of them was Greece. We took a ferry from Athens to Naxos Island and we spent few days there. We were so happy to be there for the first time so we were ready to take pictures and enjoy the trip. I noticed a lot of poverty while we were walking through all these local streets. Then I started to realize that I've always imagined Greece in general as a very rich place based on all the touristic places that tourists, movies and overal pictures demonstrate constantly. Of course there are very nice places and I just loved the white constructions everywhere ! It gave me so much peace, specially with the breeze and deep clear blue of the ocean. I was in love! We spent most of the time enjoying the nice warm weather and the beach. I couldn't feel more happy walking on the sand, sharing this vacation with my greatest friend, appreciating nature, listening to the greek language which was so different from ours but so amazingly beautiful. One night we went for a walk and suddenly some greek music got my attention. We found this cute local restaurant with live music and people were dancing. We decided to give it a try since we got so attracted to it. Beside our table there was a nice greek couple who kindly explained to us the dance customs of breaking dishes smashing them all the way to the floor. For us this was very strange but we learned that incredibly this is something from so many years ago and it has an interesting explanation. Then in the middle of the tables with extraordinary greek music a group of people started a dance and my friend and me decided to join them even though we didn't know anyone or any dance moves. But we thought it was one of a kind experience in a totally different country so it was a must. We had so much fun and we had a connection with them through this amazing dance. I'll never forget it. I find amazing their culture, their history, their music, their people ... and I definitely want to come back. Traveling is all about learning, opening your mind to different customs, cultures, history, languages, sharing and receiving love, creating new experiences and memories that will last for ever in your heart.
