Traveling to all the seven continents of the world can be a dream come through for many enthusiastic travelers with the purpose of gaining insight into different cultures and norms of the People. Life can have a better outlook once we start appreciating the reason people behave the way they do. I have visited several countries in the world and met people with some funny culture and believe patterns that I should not fault by all means but I have found somewhere in my heart to embrace them and in some ways unlearn and learn new things. In 2015, when I attended my first international convention with Rotary International in Brazil, it gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to connect with local Rotarians who will accept my culture without judging me. The convention lasted for five days with different breakout sessions to help Rotarians make friends of like minds. I attend this particular breakout session that was new to me and it was about Peace Building and Conflict Resolutions. In that class, Peace Ambassadorial Scholars were in the class and those with the intention of learning how to resolve conflicts in their local communities were also present in the class. A particular lady struck my attention in no small measure with her fantastic smile and gazes, I immediately made a contact by taking a picture with her and adding her as a friend on my social media handle: Facebook. This was the beginning of a roller-coaster of friendship with Poliana Bella. My visit to Sao Paulo Brazil took a different turn after I met this stunning lady. She took me to the locals later that evening and made sure I got a good treat. We went to downtown Sao Paulo, the marketplace and to the local restaurants where the Brazilian culture was enshrined. It was an awesome experience seeing what they can do with beef and how it is been processed and added to several dishes to make a filling meal out of it. This part of their behavioural pattern reminded me of a particular tribe in my country Nigeria called the Yoruba's, of how much they loved beef and would have about seventy percent of their meal made of up of cow meat like the large and small intestine, beef and the processed cow skin that is called "POMO".It is collectively called "orisirisi" Back to Sao Paulo! I was thrilled by the size of the beef in their Burgers, and I have not seen it like that anywhere in the world. The percentage of beef to other ingredients in the Burger was 70/30. I was unable to finish a burger even when it is taken as a meal. The amazing thing about these people is their friendly nature and the readiness to help you understand their language. The two languages spoken in Brazil are Spanish and Portuguese.I did learn how to say thank you in their language which Obrigado & Obrigada (masculine & Feminine form). The memories of this journey still resonates in my mind even after 5 years and Poliana have become more like a sister to me because we discuss everything and know each other's families. Poliana is now living in the United States with her husband and I visited her to spend five days with her and her family at Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts.
