We went to Spain to study two weeks at Salamanca’s University, it was an incredible experience, and in our last weekend in Europe we decided to go to Porto. We didn't know what was waiting for us, it was a sudden decision. We were so anxious to discover what we would find in Portugal, and we got courage and a lot of desire to see the new things. we travelled all night long and we arrived very early, it was so cold and, as soon as we got there, we looked for somewhere for us to shelter, and wait for the sunrise, we decided to wait at a subway station, drinking chocolate and coffee. Two hours later the sun appeared and we got out to explore the city with a lot of expectancy and euphoria. One interesting point about Porto is the blue tiles in the walls of some constructions. We saw this characteristic in two churches, Souls and Idelfonso Saint Church, the color was so different of everything I have ever seen, we were wonderstruck. While we passed by the churches we heard the bells and the experience just got better. We walked a lot that day, in order to enjoy everything that the city made available to us, we went to the Tower and Church of Clerics, that visually, did not call attention, but we decided to visit it. When we came in, we were very surprised with the details. The sculptures seem to be gold plated, in the church ceiling there were wonderful paints of grapes and wine, the walls and pillars were amazing. When we climb the tower we came across a city view. It was crowded, I could hear Americans, Brazilians, Asians and others that I couldn't identify the nationality. We could see the river and the Dom Luis Bridge, incredible and imposing. At lunch time we decided to try typical foods of Porto, we choose Francesinha, this is a kind of sandwich made with bread, ham, fresh sausage, steak or roast meat, and covered with melted cheese and a hot and thick spiced tomato and beer sauce, It is typically served with french fries, the flavor was very citrus. We drunk sangria, beverage made of Porto’s wine too, and fruit, very refreshing and tasty. After this we went to the pier, I was so happy, there were people singing, talking, eating and drinking, people dancing and I was just sitting, feeling the wind in my face. As the day passed by, we went to the Dom Luis Bridge, to see the sunset, and after the exhausting day, this was the best reward. There were a lot of people, it was very windy, the climate was very nice, 59º F, and the sky was amazing, orange color. The sun reflected in the water of the river, the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen, we stayed there just admiring the place. As the day went by and the night came out, the lights started to shine and we just stayed there, looking at the place, Porto was amazing. Dom Luis Bridge was totally wonderful, so, I understood why it is a postcard of the city. We could see far away the sunset and the beautiful clouds, stunning scenery. Unfortunately, time does not wait for us, and we needed to go. Before we left Porto, we had dinner, I choose cod dumplings, it was delicious, and to drink, I choose a glass of beer. I did not expected to feel all this in just one day, it was an incredible experience and this way, we said goodbye to Porto already missing the city. I did not want to leave that place, I went away, but I am sure that I left something there, and I hope that someday, I could go there to live this experience again.
