I didn't expect to find Qatar

Shares

It was during the year 2017, when I was awarded a scholarship by Qatar University, for a one-year Arabic program for non-native speakers. Although my interest in the language itself was the initial rationale underlying my trip to Qatar, it was ultimately surpassed by my enthusiasm for discovering new things in a new country. Indeed, this was unprecedented in my life. Could you imagine once granted that opportunity what I was thinking about Qatar? I was dreaming about new beautiful buildings, beautiful cities, I was very excited with the prospects of discovering what a country as rich as Qatar could contain. I started thinking about how to go about exploring Qatar —the iconic sites such as the Corniche, or the traditional locations related to desert life and culture. After all, everyone wants to be in a place like Qatar but for some, it is like a dream trip, and I was one of them. According to me, it was going to be an unforgettable travel. Once I had learnt that migrants comprised the bulk majority of Qatar’s population, I started finding myself dreaming about making amazing friends with new people all over the world. Once I reached Qatar, I discovered more or less everything that I was expecting about it. I truly enjoyed It. For my travel, my story covered one year I spent in Qatar. During my time in Qatar, I visited some old and famous places such as the market named Souq Waqif, where I bought several. I also visited museums, and the old sites where Qatari people used to spend their life in the past, and some other great places too. It was an absolutely fantastic travel. At Qatar University, I built strong relationships with my lecturers as well as my colleagues. I achieved my main goal which was improving my skills in Arabic. By the end of the program, one could easily tell that I was able to speak much more fluently. It was an experience that left a permanent mark, changing the way in which I thought about people from different cultures.
