Rainbows under the sea

A leap into the unknown Thailand

My trip to Thailand was as impromptu as it gets. I had just finished law school along with the realization that i did not want to pursue a career in law. I was lost and felt i deserved a proper vacation. Now to be honest there were mainly two reason for choosing Thailand. First was that it was really cheap to travel to Thailand from India and secondly it had the best of both worlds, it offered unparalleled scenic beauty and a party life to talk about ages. I stayed at a party hostel called Bodega at Phuket. I was there for 8 days and loved every second of it. As this was my first time out of the country i was a bit overwhelmed by traveling alone. But as soon as got to the hostel, the volunteers there came up to to my room offering free shots, making me feel at home and getting me to come down and hang with them. It was family night at the hostel, so spent the night playing games and getting to know each other. which was great. Next day i went on a day tour to Coral and Racha island. Which is not the popular option but exactly why i chose it. It was a great decision too. At Coral island, i had this crystal clear beach all to myself for an hour. The water was such an magnificent blue and so beautiful and peaceful.I was thoroughly sad to see other people coming in after an hour because it was my own little slice of heaven till then. But little did i know the best was yet to come. Next stop was free diving in the middle of the sea and i'm telling you now, free diving in Phuket is just a different level of experience. First of all, i couldn't despite hours spent on the water still come to terms with how beautiful the water was and then once you do dive in, the fishes will amaze you. The fishes come in all color and shapes, it's actually a rainbow under the sea. Right about when i wished for better lung capacity. After i got back to the hostel, i was told it was pub crawl night. Everybody was in an extremely good mood just enjoying themselves , playing beer pong, drinking games till the pub crawl started. like any party hostel worth it's name things did get crazy inside Bodega. The actual pubs that we went to where also really nice both music and ambiance wise. Safe to say everybody had a night to remember for ages but couldn't due to the intense inebriation. One of the best things one could do in Thailand is rent a scooter and drive around taking in the country. Just keep driving to every nook and cranny. Find the multiple tiny beaches that are hardly populated by tourists. Explore Phuket town. Eat a lot of street food. Nobody has gotten sick from Thai street foods, don't worry. Phuket is an experience onto itself in every way. I did go to a day tour to Phi Phi island but as everyone had warned me, it was in fact too crowded. But then again it was not something i wanted to miss. Everything from Maya beach to James Bond Island on the way was so magnificent to look at. The water alone was hypnotizing to just look at. I have only been to Thailand outside of India but the way Thailand makes you feel, i can see why a lot of people especially from native English speaking countries are working there as tutors and spending years there. For those who, money and fame is not the key to happiness, Thailand offers something profound to fill your soul, make you content and moreover make you happy.
