Real life's costumes

It was my first time. I have never seen the metro so full of people before. Felt like it was a student excursion. So full of energy, cheerfulness, happiness. Anyone going out on the streets that week would have been immediately contaminated by the good vibes. It's a time everybody is allowed to be who they are, to dress the way they want. My friends and I made a 1-hour-long trip to our destination that was 19 km away from home. 1-hour seeing strangers acting like friends, touching unintentionally and apologizing before ending up laughing. 1 hour of listening to all types of conversations and music. 1-hour rating strangers’ costumes (some so creative I would give a prize). 1-hour watching metro guards going insane with some irresponsible teenagers. At first, we were three, until we met with another friend at the final station. Suddenly a guy and girl held on us and asked if they could be with us till the end of the bloquinho (traditional Carnaval street parties, usually with live bands and a theme). We did not know them before that, but we found out we had a lot in common. Since the first very moment, we have heard the music blasting, we would not stop dancing. Some people would stop by your side to dance with you. Nobody couldn't care less, some were so alcoholized and it was not even 2 pm. We could hear the singer up there at the trio eletrico. In the middle of the party it is super common to step on someone else's feet or even hit someone (not on purpose, of course) and it is a great opportunity to start some new friendships and give some good laughs. It was everywhere. The good vibes were everywhere. Regardless of race, sexual orientation, genders, from the riches to the homeless. We were all the same person, we were all dancing to the same songs and being happy for the same reasons. That week only, I met about 20 new people. Some of them I'll never see again, some I'm taking for life. I also learned a lot about my own culture, my country, and its citizens. My history and all that while Partying. We grow up seeing airplanes in the sky and wondering how wonderful it would be to meet new cultures, places, people. Little do we know that sometimes the deepest connections and most meaningful moments are right in front of us just waiting for a chance.
