Sarajevo mon amour

A leap into the unknown Bosnia & Herzegovina

I tend to travel at my own pace with no set plans except getting to europe and returning back to Canada. On this 5 th trip to europe I went east. Past Venice...into Slovenia and then to Croatia. Something pulled me here. Not sure if it was my DNA specifically but maybe...I met friends. New friends and one said “you’d love Sarajevo. It’s only about 3 hours away”. So I decided to hop on bus (as the trains are not that active in Croatia or Bosnia-Herzegovina I found out) and head there. It just so happened that when I got to the lovely historic town of Mostar that a young woman got on the bus and proceeded to tell me that the Sarajevo film festival was just beginning the next day.. it’s funny as just as I was about to show her a pic from a film I’d seen in Canada I realized I’d left my phone charging in the cafe at the bus terminal and our bus was about to leave! I informed the bus driver with animated movements while my new film pal translated. Whew there was my phone where id left it! This happened in quite a few trips I’ve had but luck always seems to come my way. I guess I have some travellers karma or something. Among other things about this impromptu trip was that on day 6 I got to got to a free Master class with Tim Roth!! You know I meet people all the time travelling who like me have no set plans. It’s cool. But I meet many more who stress and plan and follow a tight schedule and while I can’t say I’ve never been stressed having shown up,In say,Catania Sicilia at 12 midnight with nowhere to stay and no one who spoke English and no data....well...that’s another story...
