"Go to school," they said, "get a job, and buy a house. That's the American Dream." We often think of success as obtaining those three things, and once we have, it's happily ever after. In February 2019, I had a job that I loved and thought I was going to retire there. I was good at what I did and got along with the people I worked with. Life was good! That is, until I had a falling out with my boss which ultimately lost me my job. At this point, I had a decision to make. I could go go find a job somewhere, and even a good paying job with my credentials, or I could take a risk on myself and pursue my own business to give me and my family the flexibility to travel whenever we wanted. The road wasn't easy. We had more ramen than I care to think about, and had to say "no" to outings with friends more often than not to save money. There were times when we thought we couldn't do this, but by the grace of God, we kept going. It's hard to believe that it was a year ago that the decision was made for us to be on our own, but now we are visiting are 6th country together as a family. Just before bed, my four year old son hugged my and said "I love being here, and I love my family". And THAT is the reason I travel.
