The much awaited destination was the one which I used to study in text books during school days.On a hot morning in August, my university friends planned a visit to Naran Kaghan. Naran and Kaghan are in northern areas of Pakistan. These areas are famous for their mesmerizing land scapes. We set off for two days and three nights journey towards Naran. It was a long journey though the road was smooth and mildly bumpy at some places. Nevertheless, we reached there in the afternoon. The hotel we were able to book was a beautiful one. It had river flowing on its one side. The weather was pleasantly cold, much different from summer heat back home. After taking rest, we decided to explore Saif ul Malook lake. This lake has several folk lores associated with it.It is believed that at night, fairies visit this lake and dance around.Though we were not hoping for fairies yet we wanted to witness this picturesque lake ourselves. We were told that to reach Saif ul Malook, we need to hire a jeep. The distance from jeep stand to the lake is only 1.5 to 2 kms. However, the path is dangerous as it is rocky, bumpy and is narrow. Furthermore, on one side is the deep valley and on other side mountains are there. A small stream of water coming from behind the mountains, after bathing the pathway, falls into deep valley. Previously, this distance was covered with people riding on mules. Depsite short distance, it takes almost half an hour to reach the lake. We got into the jeaps and started towards the lake. It was a heart sinking experience but the desire to see Saif ul Malook overcame all fears. At last, we reached the lake. When I looked at Saif ul Malook, I was enchanted. I was out of words to describe the view in front of me. Lake Saif ul Malook covers a great area of land with its greenish blue waters. The sunlight reflecting on this crystal colored water body added to its luminance. The lake was bounded within small mountainous plains. It was very crowded with people of all sorts capturing the beauty of the Lake.On one side, there is a small traditionally styled open area for having lunch.I walked around with my friends to the other side of the lake. Here a snow slope was being used as a slide. It was a slippery one so I restrained myself. We also went for a boat ride.I touched ripples created by the boat and felt cold water. To my surprise, something solid had touched my hand while it was in the water. I took it to be the ore of the boat. One of my friends told me that this might be a fish that stings. This is yet to be decided upon. It was a beautiful, serene viewpoint and I thoroughly enjoyed it as I sat down on a rock placed at shore with my feet dipping in the Saiful Malook depths.
