I didn't expect to find Brunei

Shares

Brunei, an independent Islamic sultanate country in Southeast Asia in the northern coast island of Borneo. pretty amazing right? Well, I traveled along with my sister and our other two friends. At first, I was really hesitant going there because a need for travel authority must be presented in the immigration since I am a government nurse that permits you to travel abroad another, with the cultural issues as there are lots of governing rules imposed and I grew in the Philippines wherein, wearing loose and light clothing is better. Perception wise, wearing those kinds of clothes in Brunei won't fit though having the same weather as ours as they are known to wear Baju Kurung for women while Baju Melayu for men. As I am fond of wearing dresses, with respect to their culture I just brought pants, shirts with sleeves and cardigans for the whole tour. We will be staying there for 4 days and 3 nights at No 32 Simpang 239-42 Kampung Kapok Jln Muara BT 2328 from AirBNB booked by my friends. Not knowing what will happen to us there? as we do not have any plans in mind. We departed November 3, 2018, in Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila via Cebu Pacific Airlines having 2 hours and 45-minute travel landed at Brunei International Airport feeling ecstatic with the environment and the immigration officers that are very strict asking what is the address of where you will stay, how many days will you spend staying and if someone you know is living there? Those are the most exact questions asked for your passport to be stamped. Successfully, we go through it. Walking through the arrival area we felt hungry so, they bought foods at KFC inside the airport. Since we do not have any service going to our booked reservation house, my friends looked for the cheapest taxi and got one. The driver seems to be kind as he was telling us a bit history of their country. Along the road, I was stunned by the big houses and the security regulated within. After an hour, We arrived at our destination safely. Brunei is probably known to be the safest country. Then, packed up for the next day. We are just walking on a sunny day giggling along and hanging around for a bus to come but as we are waiting for it we already spent an hour and 30 minutes still no bus is en route, we are wondering why? Ably, there is a man whose age is in his 60's, A Chinese stopped and asked us where are we going? Then, we explained to him that we are going to the beach downtown. Acquaint with, I called him Lolo while my friends call him Uncle. I did not expect that without hesitancy he drove us there and pick us up afterward at no costs. Then, we went to Soon Lee Supermarket to buy foods for us to eat. Unexpectedly, I got to meet someone. One of our kababayan there approached me and asked if we are travelers? I told him Yes while looking for foods Kuya called his co-workers telling them that there are pretty Filipina tourists and one of those is the Bruneian national. Meanwhile, chatting on with my friends they told him that I am single and he got interested resultantly, offered us to roam around the city with him. Admirably we are so blessed. Then, we exchanged each other names, asked for my number but I do not have so, my friend just gave hers to confirm for tomorrow's sight-see in. We went home and felt really happy about what happened. Lolo as well offered us to have dinner with him and his friends. We do appreciate his kindness yet uncertain since we do not know him well but we owe him a lot consequently, we accepted his offer. That night he fetch us and went straight to his friend's house. Surprisingly, there are lots of foods prepared and drinks as well, we got to meet new friends. The next day, this Bruneian national show up. I come out from the washroom and when we saw each other it’s like there is a slow-mo moment and that time, I run towards my room and felt shy all over. We went to the different tourist spots like the Masjid Omar Saifuddien Mosque considered to be the most beautiful mosque in the Asia Pacific, Kampung Ayer a historic water village, the Empire hotel a prestigious five-star resort and the different beaches that become very special to me. Later on, he decided to bring us to his house because it was raining heavily. there I got to meet his family including his pet named Syera, a long-haired breed of cat and that makes it adorable. We spent two days tour with him and on the last day he had dinner with us at home after, we got to talk privately telling me that he is serious about knowing me more. He gave his number to me likewise, asked me to download WhatsApp in order for us to have a concrete communication. He took us to the airport, I remember that it was raining that day he offered his umbrella and helped me with my things while walking. A sweet gesture that I felt moved. Soon after, he gave me a black necklace with an initial S on it. I was wondering what it means? He told me to keep it and that would always remind me of him. Last-minute before checking-in he asked me to hug him as he will miss me so, am I. As we arrived in the Philippines, I downloaded the application and started our communication. This ultimate experience is full of unexpected happenings that make it more momentous. I didn’t expect to find people that became my new friends and someone that became part of my life that let me discern his culture, language, love that I am looking for. Terima Kasih, Love I got to embrace your culture and songs that you were always singing to me until now, even when we are not together anymore.
