The roar of the Victoria Falls, the mist floating above creating a magnificent cloud above the water falls is an experience that one can never put into words. I am a native of this small town and have had the privilege of witnessing the Victoria Falls in its fullest capacity to the times were the flow is very low. My experience is in seeing the transformation of this mighty waterfall, its majestic beauty at peak season as I commute to work daily. With each passing day i would observe the difference in the cloud density above the waterfall. Its mystifying and intriguing the impact this river has not only the waterfall but the fauna and flora that depends on it. I am honored to work in an area were animals freely roam about seeing the bountiful elephants reveling in the abundant trees with indigenous fruits, the impala closely following behind. The naughty baboons playing in the trees and rummaging through dust bins for left over scraps is a daily routine. I remember one particular day walking to my workplace i encountered a troop of baboons. At first i was terrified in as much as i grew up surrounded by these animals a wild animal is still a wild animal. I froze as the general consensus is that these troops in Victoria Falls do not "respect" women especially if you are wearing a skirt and lo and behold i was wearing one. The pathway to my workplace is a dusty road through a bushy area so i was really in a bind. I stood there for a minute then the troop leader charged at me. i threw my bag at it and ran for dear life. i did not look back.As i was running i came across a gentleman . He assured me he would get my bag back for me and we returned back together. As we approached the baboons the leader charged again. The gentleman who had courageously tried to get my bag was running in front of me needless to say it was a futile attempt. I had to wait and watch as the baboons took turns removing my things from the bag with the hope that there was food which to their disappointment there was nothing of the sort. My story is a tale that many residents have told and experienced. Its almost like an experience that everyone must through, like a rite of passage "The Victoria Falls Baboon experience". This small town holds vast array of history that I myself find out new things about daily and yet i was born and bred here. This is my travel story although mine can be rephrased as my daily travel experience, my connection to this beautiful town in Zimbabwe.
