A leap into the unknown Mexico

In the blink of an eye, I found myself surrounded by the tranquility of the ocean and the immensity of the depth. Never in my life have I felt something similar, an unreal sensation, which in just a second made me feel like a small part of nature. It all started when my dad and I decided to go diving in Cancun. As usual. He and I had the crazy idea of turning something magnificent like diving into something ours. My favorite part… the leap into the infinite world of the sea and the peace it makes me feel. More than a hobby, I find it as an escape, from cities full of buildings, noise, cars and traffic lights. However, this dive was completely different, it was a dream come true. We decided to dive with Whale Shark. The largest fish on the planet. The whole adventure began the day before. We prepare all the equipment, check the tanks and suits, add gas to the car, agree with the locals that were going to take us on their boat and most importantly, become aware of the great experience that I would be part of the next day. I got up early, as usual. The difference, this morning’s coffee was staring at the sea. The peace of that moment contrasted with the adrenaline to come. We had to leave the hotel where we were staying early because the port of departure was an hour away. We were on a 6 people tour for this expedition, including the guide. We agreed to leave as early as possible, to be able to take almost all day on this adventure. That day, in particular, it seemed as if the universe was in our favor, there was no current in the sea and the sun shined like no other day. The trip to get to the boat became an eternity, my desire to dive into the bubbles of this wonderful animal was killing me. Between several chats, people and kilometers, every minute that passed put me closer to my dream. From the moment that I set foot on the boat, I began to feel alive again. The trip was even more perfect than a dream. The water was an impressive crystalline blue. As the wind blew my hair, a group of dolphins accompanied us almost half of the trip. A few minutes before arriving at the place where we were going to make the big jump, we all began to put into action preparing the diving gear. The guide explained that as soon as he shouted, in that exact second we had to jump and start swimming as the whale shark moved. I wasn't ready for what would come next… -: Jump! I heard it in the distance, or maybe the excitement didn’t let me listen clearly. But between screams and movements, I jumped. And it was the best decision of my life. Have you heard the phrase “Perfect timing?” Well, that was exactly what happened to me, at this moment I became one with the sea, the breathing of this animal made me feel the highest adrenaline. The whale shark was three times my size. And on its side, he was accompanied by majestic eagle rays. Following the rhythm of the whale shark was almost impossible due to its tail of about 2.5 meters, essential for the thrust of its swim. But it was worth it. Even at the distance, I notice the similarity with the whale, but it was the intense grayish color combined with perfectly white and yellow lines that identified him. For me, the most striking attribute was the majestic head with two tiny eyes and a rounded snout. When I glanced at his eyes, it was a unique and irreplaceable feeling. We floated in the vastness. I was fortunate to be able to see so many of these animals together in this part of the Caribbean. At the end of this experience, I understood the importance of taking care of the seas and its resources to continue enjoying these wonders. And from that moment I realized how each one is part of something sublime.
