The BLACK Girl In A Different World

I didn't expect to find Ghana

I sat there alone, at the lounge, casting my curious mind back home where I could freely communicate without fear as passengers await their respective flights. Here I was, undoubtedly being stared at as a dispensable portrait at the exhibition centre without a good bid. As departure time was due, I walked briskly to the bus as my heart kept fading away. At that moment, all I wanted was to be a vapor coming out of a cooked meal and finding myself on my warmth bed at home. As the bus approached the plane, I knew instantly, I was yet to jump another hurdle. I sat in the plane, fastened my seat belt, turned to look at the passenger beside me with the hope of catching a beautiful smile from him just to ease my pain, only for him to turn away and folded himself like a mat so his body wouldn’t touch mine. I took a quick glance and to my utmost surprise, I realized I was the only black girl in the flight from Shanghai to Beijing. As the order of the day, Asian passengers awkwardly kept staring at me, making me feel like that stone in the beans. I didn’t expect to find - myself as the only black girl in an Asian flight to suffer racism. I didn’t expect to find - human beings treat another human being as an outcast! My skin color does not define me, however the world is lost in racism.
