The Everyday Travels

Once you set your foot in a local bus, things change. And once you start setting your foot in locals everyday, things drastically change. If we are being honest, locals can create different stories for everyone, some being sweet romantic, some being truly comic, some giving a rise in blood pressure and some path enlightening. Just like any other person who likes to travel, I have traveled through north and south of the sub-continent. But my travel story isn't going to be about those places because sometimes the most basic things leave the most heavy impact. From where I am, an up-downer is someone who travels to the nearby city 'daily' for the studies or job. Now just like countless people, I travel 30-35Km of distance through the local bus to get to my college. When you look around, there are these distinct people. The ones who offer seat, the ones who steal it, the ones who make room for you, the ones who are just too busy to notice you. There are endless categories going on and on. So one day, just like any other, with my earphones plugged in and playlist at bombarding volume; I get on the bus, in search for an empty seat which I luckily got by the window and then I just looked around. People don't usually do that once it becomes their daily routine. For the daily travelers it's just a war zone if you don't get the seat, and sunset and clear wind are just among the other things that go unnoticed. To me and many more the crowd in the bus always seemed just like a pack of cigarette, way too compact, tight and hazardous for health. But that's just an overlook and there so much more that I just realized that day. So I was on my way home, with 'Rise by Jonas Blue' playing on my phone and the sun on its way to set. And there were these tiny dew drops in the fields which I don't know how I managed to notice in a moving bus. The sky drowned in the color of honey, and the wind was soft enough to take you to a dreamy nap. I've heard people say it, but when you are in midst of such a grasping moment; time really does slow down for the better. I looked around and I saw a guy standing across me. I don't know what his story might have been, but it felt like this moment just took away some suffering he had for a long time. People were enjoying the breeze in silence and for once there was no hubbub there. I looked at all the people that I could and I saw there was an amazing story to all of them that no one surrounding them at that point knew. Someone might have just got a promotion while someone might have left their job for their dreams. Someone might have just accomplished something they've been wanting for years and someone might have just fallen in love. There was so much to them and they didn't seem like a pack of cigarette anymore. I was talking to a stranger sitting next to me which is like next to impossible. She told me that she just came back from volunteering at a support group for the first time. I could see the spark of joy in her eyes and somehow it made me really happy. I looked out of the window again, just gazing at the setting sun with no thoughts but peace in mind. Highway was about to end, and just before it did, I saw the sun vanish into the horizon leaving behind a beauty covering the sky. And somehow suddenly by the end of it, the everyday local had nothing local about it.
