I didn't expect to find South Africa

I felt the sun rays on my skin. The sun shined brighter on this part of the world. The fruitful trees brought more than just their harvest. They provided a much needed shade. It is normal to assume on a trip you will need money more than goods, but it was totally different here.People traded with goods in exchange for other goods.Money seemed to be problem and only a few had it. Everything was ridiculously expensive but what amazed me is how hopeful the people of this country were. They had the spirit of Ubuntu ( humanity). I watched how things looked so simpler to them. As much as they lived a less complicated life they worked twice as hard to make ends meet. It's amazing how one destination can change your perspective on life as a whole.I then understood the importance of being appreciative of what I have. The elderly told me stories of long ago. The history was not pleasant but it is exactly what makes them who they are today. Story telling in South Africa is common because we have a lot to say. We appreciate our past to make the most out of our future. Some still look at the country as a waste land but I see the land of hopes and dreams.
