A leap into the unknown Japan

It’s not the best idea to go anywhere ill prepared. Well, sometimes it can turn into a fun adventure or a quick daytrip fun. I, on the other hand, spent a whole week in this state of amazement turned into homesick. Don’t get me wrong, I love traveling. I’ve been to several states in America and several countries with my middle school. The difference about this trip was that I was going through puberty in a unknown place. The moment I got to Japan I was so excited because we spent the first night in Tokyo. While the hotel was quite small, it was amazing being about 15 feet up. The city shined. The next day I went to a city where my penpal and her classmates lived. I was in the south part of Japan. It was a blast and a culture shock. Keep in mind, I loved every minute of this new place and new experience. After this, we did some calligraphy and took a couple minutes to sit in on different classes. That night I went to my penpal’s house and had traditional dinner. It was quite interesting how we all had to take a bath in the same tub of water. I stayed true to tradition and took advantage of being able to take a bath first. I slept like a baby. The next day we went to class again I got to see all my friends who actually spoke English. We even got to sing in front of the students and play a game of football. All seemed fine and well until that night. Right before, I got to the bath I noticed my period started. How am I going to take a bath first and have the rest of the family sit in my blood. I decided to be polite and showered. Close call! When I woke up, I immediately jumped out of bed. It was wet. When I looked at the sheets, BOOM! The flag of Japan basically awaited me eyes. What a way to end a trip. This isn’t actually how it ended. It ended with a more adventures with my classmates to temples and such, trips to the 10 feet story malls, markets, traditional dishes, and more. I just had quite a surprise in the middle of the trip. I wouldn’t advise you go anywhere for over a couple days unprepared in the future. But, hey- any trip is an adventure!
