I was admitted to the hospital for 4 days due to swollen intestine and 15 days later I was on a bus to Lamjung with four of my other friends. The final destination: Tilicho, the world’s highest lake for its size. Sadly, I am the only single being in the group. With my headphones on I was imagining about the lake, reminiscing the photos that I had seen on the internet. While my other friends who were technically the love couples were in their own fascination. I was in my own world debating with myself about the beauty of Tilicho and suddenly I came back to my senses when the cool breeze of fresh air touches my cheeks leaving me with chills. Yes! I really was about to witness the beauty of Tilicho with my own eyes. The bus left us at Lamjung and without wasting any minute we got on a jeep that would take us to Chame from where we were about to start our trekking journey. The jeep ride was years long, at least that’s what it felt like. But I bet everyone would forget the bumpiness of the roads when you start observing nature. Trust me I have never seen the river as blue as I saw the Marsyangdi river escorting us the whole way. My couple friends cuddled with each other on those cold nights while I made myself warm thinking about what wonders the next day will bring to me. The trek started, we walked through lush green mountains to brown bare hills, the herd of horses, apple farms as far as your eyes could see, wooden bridges, schools, villages, and whatnot. Each day was different. We saw different landscapes, different people, different villages, different houses, and different roads. Us girls even colored our hair in blonde hahaha. Then finally we saw Yak. Such amazing beast it was. It was snowing when we saw those black beauties running towards us. We were startled for a minute then continued our journey that awaited more of such surprises. We took a little detour to a place named Ice Lake. Believe me when I say this was the most terrifying trekking trail I had ever had my legs on (not knowing Tilicho was 100 times scarier than this). So, finally, after 1 week of trekking, we reached Tilicho Base Camp walking past the trekking trail that was in the middle of a landslide area where the land was dripping every time (I had my heart in my mouth the whole time). It was almost dinner time that day when I saw someone staring at me through the windows of the dining hall. I took a gander only to find out it was my best friend who was trying to figure out if it was really me. I jumped off my seat in with tears of happiness nearly tripping over the crowd of people in the hall. It was like finding my own self in that cold, lonely yet beautiful place. The next day we were walking through a small hill when I saw a blue cloud far on the horizon. It was Tilicho in its most calm state while we observed its beauty in awe. We returned back after admiring it with lots of memories and experiences. By far this is the best trip I had ever been on. Not only because of the beauty and nature but because it made my friends closer to one another. It made us realize that there is so much to live rather than just for work and studies. There are so many unexplored places holding beauties like Tilicho. It just takes courage and a group of friends like mine who are ready to pack their bags and be by your side whenever needed. It is true that you don't remember the pain but you will forever cherish the thing that you got to see despite all of those struggles. Traveling is not just about having fun and getting wasted, it teaches you life, it teaches you to struggle and it teaches you to search happiness in the things you have. If there really is heaven it must look like Tilicho.
