I love to travel. I’ve quit drinking and smoking so that I could afford the expensive ‘where are we going to next?’ lifestyle. Over 20 trips and what would have been thousands of martinis later. I have found myself in the beautiful lush jungles of Costa Rica. Not my first time here. However, my first time bringing along 13 other people and hosting my 1st Yoga Retreat. I love traveling so much that I have always wanted to share it with others. I went down to Costa Rica a year before to scout out the area that I wanted to host my retreat in. A 4-hour drive from San Jose, taking a right off the bustling 34 highway and down a small little hill. I hit the one road strip that is the little surf town known as, Dominical. Bright and welcoming I find a curb side to park my car to take an explorative walk. The surf shops, little markets, cafes and beach vendors had me at “Ola”. This is definitely where I will bring my Yoga Retreat guests. Fast forward a year later and I am back! This time guiding and holding space for half a dozen people. We spend our nights at our villa. A 15 minute drive up the side of a cliff and driving through a flowing stream. I’ll admit here that I loved taking a speedy approach with my rented minivan to get to the other side. When we reached our villa at the top, the stunning views of the Ocean were breathtaking. Each day after our morning Yoga class. We would take the drive back down the mountain to our little beach side town. Spending some evenings at the newest and most fanciest jungle Brewery I’ve ever seen. We would surf in the day, shop in the afternoon. I personally let a lady strip me down naked to receive the most aggressively intense massage that somehow left me feeling “peaceful” and “blissed out”! I was so happy to share this beautiful adventure with all these wonderful yogis that decided to join me. However time and time again, I found myself trying to venture off alone. Explore the little nooks and alleyways that I didn’t have the chance to the last time I was here. I realized that I wouldn’t be doing it this time either. You see this trip wasn’t for me. This trip was for all the people that joined me. I asked myself several times while staring at the ocean “would I ever host a retreat like this again?” I love to travel so much (mainly with my life partner). I found that I have discovered - “that the best way to discover, is on your own.” Where you‘re free to come and go as you please. Spending as much time as you want just sitting on the beach waiting and watching for the little crabs to come out of their holes in the earth. I feel most connected in my life when my shoes are off and my feet are rooted to the ground. One of my most favorite things to do on vacation is go barefoot as often as I can. Even while hiking deep in the jungle and up the side of a cliff! I am an explorer longing for adventure and wanting to share it with others. I have many plans to lead retreats in the future. Home now for 2 weeks after our first retreat and taking the long contemplative journey inward. I’m at it again, looking and booking my next trip (good thing I’ve recently become a travel agent). This next trip however will be just for me. Taking the journey once again inward. I find that some of the best realization come when on a vacation, just sitting wherever you’ve landed.
