I'll tell it exactly how I felt it. So the plane starts to descend into the runway and palm trees and sundown begins to fill the window. I had this wonderfully warm and peaceful feeling come over me and my mind said 'this is home'. This was my first sort of solo not-so solo trip. As in taking the plane by myself but going to meet friends who lived out there. I didn't have any expectations for this trip or for what I'd be seeing, tasting, and doing, it was more about the company. But somehow every day was a beautiful adventure and something new. LA resonated with me, the pace of life, blend of multiple cultures and the love of collaboration. I guess what was different was that this time I had travelled for the people I knew and not for the place itself. All the pressures of cultivating the best experience were not even a thought or in question. I got to connect with the city in such a natural and authentic way. Everything felt new, everything was great even if it was simple it was rich. It's kind of like not trying to control the outcome and just letting go of your plans and letting chance, adventure, spontaneity occur. Chance happened when my friend from London, Joy, ended up being in LA a week before me and was out there for the majority of my trip. Spontaneity happened when Joy, wanted to do a shoot, so she gathered creative friends she knew from her previous trips. Joy brought together a photographer, model, stylist and myself to creatively collaborate on something that would go on to be printed in a magazine. I was again happy to be apart of something and in a new place. Out of that shoot, Juliana, the photographer became my life long friend. Just as I was enjoying the whimsical spirit of LA i was being separated like cheese from a pizza, willing and ready for whatever was next. The adventure began when my LA friends decided we should drive down to Palm Springs for a few days. I hadn't heard much of Palm Springs and probably was more familiar with Coachella and I just about knew that it took place in California. Palm Springs they say is like the retirement package for those who live in LA. It's chill, sparse and quiet with not much, but enough. Joshua tree was quite the Disney moment you imagined it to be. Stargazing into the night skies at the constellation and shooting stars. For a week my life had become the movie I'd always wanted to star in and I had a wonderful feeling about that. Nothing short of amazing was the days and nights of this trip and I'd do it again with butterflies and the sense of allowing life to fall into new places.
