The Magic of Ireland

A leap into the unknown Ireland

College is filled with opportunities to explore the world. I took one of those opportunities and went to Ireland for a month to study there over the summer. What I found, I didn’t expect. I found friends that have lasted years and images that still stick with me and always will. Ireland is a gem that contains the fairy world. Go explore the Cliffs of Moher, see the Trinity Library, or visit the Giant’s Causeway. Whatever is available, take it all in. The Cliffs of Moher are bustling with tourists in massive buses that brave the small roads to come see something that is indescribable. Unlike the United States, Ireland doesn’t have the same overly cautious gates to block the adventurous from looking down the side of the cliffs. I was one of those adventurous people. Slipping down to pass by the simple wooden stick that was there for those who were put off by that precaution, I joined the rest of the adventurous tourists to look down off the side of the cliffs. The ocean spray slammed against the rocks below, and white seagulls flew around our heads, heading out to sea. Crystal blue waters contrasted against the dark rocks. Tempted by the sheer drop, I laid down on my stomach and glanced over the side. Nothing would have stopped me if a strong wind would’ve come and swept me away. My mind wasn’t on that though; it was on the beautiful scene before me. My eyes took in everything. Breathtaking is the only way to describe it. There was nothing that could stop me from going over, but that was the thrill of the Cliffs of Moher. They stretched along the horizon, and the dirt path next to the drop off that so many walked would’ve led me to fairy worlds. How far they stretched, I never found out. Legends surround Ireland. As soon as you leave the bustling cities you find that any detour on your drive, you may find a fairy glen. There is always something to be discovered in Ireland. This island’s magic will imprint in your memories as you return from your adventures. I took a leap to study abroad, not knowing what to expect or whom I would meet. My adventurous spirit made the decision for me, and what I found in Ireland was a place full of wonder and magic and legends that I could never tire of hearing.
