The Muslim World: From another angle

A leap into the unknown United Arab Emirates

What do you think about Muslims, especially Muslim women? While many people mentioned about this religious negatively, the visit the United Arab Emirates made me evoked and encourage me to think from different angles to see the real beauty of this world. The trip to United Arab Emirates taught me two things about the Muslims that I will never forget. 1) First, the harshness. My trip happened during the Ramadan month in UAE. During the whole month, all the citizens could not eat or drink anything from 4am in the morning until 7pm in the evening. Mentioning about Muslim women, most of us know that they need to suffer a lot from the equality in the Muslim society. Whenever they go outside, they need to go with their husband or at least a man in the family. Whatever they want to do, even when they just want to take pictures with the tourists, the permission from their husband or a man in their family is needed. In addition, women need to be virgin before they get married. Having sex before marriage is not allowed, even by law. This is applied even when the woman is raped. When she is raped, before putting the ones who raped her into jail, she will be in jail first for having sex before marriage. They said that the Muslim world is the world of men. All the faults are from the women. Since the childhood, women are not allowed to interact with men. They are not allowed to even text to their schoolmates in the evening. Although Dubai and Abu Dhabi are already two places where they have opened their doors to the world, Arabian marriage here is still not coming from the free love but arranged. Men are allowed to have four wives in total but they are required to treat them equally by law in terms of assets and love. If they buy a house for the first wife, they need to buy three more for the other three wives. 2) Second, the humanity behind.... Most people know about the harshness of the Muslim world but not all of them understand the humanity behind. In the past, the Arabian life was very difficult. Whenever they found a well, they needed to build a long wall to protect it. The fights for wells happened every day taking millions of Arabian lives. They did not know when they would die during that fights. Therefore, in order to protect the women, they married many of them so that the women could stay to protect each other when they passed away. Although Muslims are harsh, unlike the traditional Indian, they are open to marry the widows. Marriage to Muslims, has been truly to protect the women. I did have a chance to watch the traditional Arabian dance. In the dance, there was a man who wears woman's clothes. It showed the love of the men when they needed to be apart from their family to fight for the lands and the wells. In the traditional house of the Arabian, no matter how simple it is, there is always a bed for pregnant women and the old women. Men always sleep on the floor. T Even when we take a closer look to the Ramadan month. The meaning behind is just for everybody to experience the life of the poor people who do not have anything to eat or drink. From the bottom of my heart, I feel respectful to be a Vietnamese lady. Who can look up to see the world, Knowing what love is. Being able to walk around the Arabian markets without having any permissions from any one. I owe my life. Yes, it is true that we do not have much money as the Arabians in the UAE nowadays. However, we have one thing that is much more valuable: Freedom. Freedom to do whatever we want which is not broken the law. Freedom to go everywhere we love. Freedom to live with our passions. And freedom to dream! Somewhere deeply inside my heart, I truly hope that the Arabian ladies could also have that feeling, one day...
