When I think about traveling I remember what I read, as a child, in the history books. They say that initially humanity was nomadic. Always in direct contact with nature, not ignoring what was on the way, because the path also mattered. Today I see how the value of the route has been lost, with transport ever faster, the eyes do not contemplate what is around them. And even if the trip takes too long, minds are stuck to cell phone screens. I lived most of my life in Vila Velha, a city next to Vitória, capital of the state of Espírito Santo. I took the bus for 6 years, from high school to college, and I was amazed to see how passengers ignored what was around us on the way - the chaos, the sky, the beauty of the colors and the lights. So I started to try to be different, to explore what there was to be discovered in our city. If there was greenery in the middle of the buildings, if there was any place that allowed me to have contact with nature, i begun to think about what life would be in harmony with the planet. And I found some oases in the middle of the brickwork desert, oases that still survive urban pressure, where you can hear the birds singing, smell the flowers, observe the beauty of the animals. Places that many city dwellers have not even heard of, as they did not look around. Ignorance about its existence threatened the life that existed there, because urban progress consumed more and more of its space. One of the places I visited is called the Lagoa Encantada Permanent Protection Area, I discovered it in 2013, when I started my adventure for the unknown in the city. A wonderful place, where there was life - trees, lagoons, swamps, animals and fresh air. That even surrounded by highways and industries, it managed to maintain its beauty, but which had already suffered from illegal deforestation, criminal fires and hunting. Seeing the degradation of nature destroying me inside, and the fact that nobody saw nature as a mother anymore, i've lost hope. Was when I met the couple Wilermam and Ingrid, two activists who lived for the protection of that area, they did not profit anything from the work they did there, but it was possible to see in their eyes the love they had for that land. They always organize ecological walks and reforestation, little by little they are restoring the place; they also encouraged many people to do the same. Their action ignited a flame in my heart and i thought- the Earth is not alone - there are those who destroy, but there are also the few who make a difference. From then on, I decided to show people the beauty of nature through photography and writing, even if they don't spend their time hiking through the forests, or watching the birds fly, they have a chance to perceive what's around us. .
