The Pentagon Leak.

I didn't expect to find Zimbabwe

As the last leaf of the golden sun shone from the horizon curve, the sun went down and dusk appeared, wrapping us into folds of suffocative darkness. The young moon bathed the asleep jungle with soft silver rays. The beautiful stars, like jewels, hung in the backdrop of space, assuring an everlasting security, an oasis of serenity bustling round the throne of the life giver. Only fear overflowed in my mind but I knew I could swim better than a duck in floods of thought. There I was, hanging from the precipice, muscles trembling, fingers aching, sweat dripping and vanishing into the evening mist several yards below. During my initial ascent, I felt strong and confident, though the intense scope of the route had begun to loosen my physical grip, as well as my grip on reality. I made it to the final hold, exhausting every drop of energy, unable to fathom lifting my arm again; my heart ponderously pumping adrenaline into every blood capillary like a locomotive piston. Navigating the jungle through streams of rushing water, rock caves, amongst the cedar trees and behind the shadows and silhouettes of unknown figures, and making split-second decisions was never easy since I was born with a walking impediment that weakened my thigh muscles. The biggest passion of my life, to save mankind, was supported by my most natural ability of computer programming which to me was the pinnacle of breathtaking craftsmanship. It all began with some melodies like those of a church bell, signalling the outbreak of the world’s deadliest plague, the mutation of human DNA; the metal bob of the community bell vacillating and oscillating like a pendulum. It was a blockade holocaust which made the whole macabre event seem more unrealistic than it was. As a computer expert, I knew there had been a DNA leak somewhere, somehow inside the Pentagon. Some computer codes had been mishandled as leading technology companies embarked on a conglomerate task of testing the new artificial intelligence system by integrating it into human DNA through the ObamaCare chipsets. It was only three months after I had defected to the Pentagon with a diskette like record of free interactive artificial intelligence codes on an innovation bootcamp. While the novelty technology was still convoluted, far-fetched and out of the scope of their focus, it had to be treated with caution. However, the DNA was contaminated, and replicated simultaneously due to a computer code DNA mutation which was triggered by a malicious virus aimed to hack and disrupt state secrets. The DNA splintered in a thousand different directions, creating a bewildering environment. Humans were living in fear as they languished in the unimaginable discomfort and horrors of being involuntarily turned into Zombies. The virus was a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnels into anything that smelled like a computer - like an avenging demon that cannot not be appeased. Completely perplexed by obstacles in the darkness, I conversed with the augmented reality powered Pokemon Go on my six and half inch iPhone screen to guide me towards the best route. Like a game of chess, I laid out an intricate plan of attack, approaching challenges with the utmost confidence. Weak and exhausted, my legs becoming heavier than the sands of the sea, I dug my elbows into the dusty ground, trying to make it to the final point. My sacrifice translated to a closer bond with the global community, helping me understand the meaning of unified family. Nevertheless, the countless hours I had spent in the jungle taught me that saving mankind is a lifestyle instead of lingering over hardships. Even more unimaginable was the fact that my phone could black out before locating the hacker. I just had to keep the trio of the power-hungry cameras running for me to keep on track with the augmented reality feature. Suddenly, the battery drained out. I looked up and flinched slightly. Surprisingly, I was standing in front of the hacker’s cave, which...I didn't expect to find. I heard a soft whisper coming from behind...I glared defiance at the hacker holding a piston and pointing at me.
