From the heart of Africa ,the country that dances with the hottest summer Sun Sudan , I was chosen to carry a training in the lands of the rising Sun , Japan. My city of destination was Kyoto, the oldest Japanese capital , and the origin of the emperors. My plane landed after an 18 hours flying time , and a 7 hour difference to my country to get hit by the cold wind and rains of Japan.I slept in Osaka to hop the following day on one of japan's special icons, the bullet train or what is called in Japanese ''shinkansen''. The sound of a different language , and the design of the train , made it feel as a space ship ready to get launched to another planet.Navigating your way without internet in a place which foreign languages are rarely spoken made it difficult for me the first few days, however what strikes you is how well mannered those people are! as I was walking looking for the university building in which I was supposed to work at , I found myself in the middle of a primary school yard , they were having a PE class, I was apologizing , and told the coach , that am looking for the University, and He started to walk with me to find the place together , he spent whole 15 minutes holding a smile on his face , to help a stranger he first saw. This was unique to me in the beginning , nevertheless i found out that , this is part of the japanese upbringing.I had the same thing happening over and over again , they never cease to surprise. Kyoto, the magical town that japanese try to hide , is a mixture of old and new, and it has a special place in their hearts. The Kamogawa river that divides the city into two halves , and the nature surrounding is breath taking , as the sun suts down , couples gather after a hard day of work or study to enjoy the latest glimpses of day light, to be turned into smiles and hugs, and maybe fireworks. The greatest fireworks are in Japan , as it is as old as their shrines , children call the festival of fireworks Ghanaian, which translates into flowers of fire, and in Lake Biwa a big lake touching 2 prefectures, Hanabi is celebrated where hundreds of beautifully colored fireworks are lit into the sky all night long. Gion, is a part of the city which is preserved from the old capital, as soon as you pass through the gates, the time machine takes you to the era of Samurai, cute japanese girls wearing colored Kimonos, men wearing yukatas , and some of them have the traditional hair cuts of samurai in the shogun era. The place is full of traditional japanese food like Okonomyaki,Soba and takoyaki, in addition to kyoto special Macha tea, and ice cream (Japanese tea).Another landmark in Kyoto is Fushimi Inari , it is thousands of vermillion torri gates shrine , it is actually a 4km of tunnel made of gates and meandering through the top of the mountain. The Inari was believed to be the god of rice , agriculture in old era, and this huge temple that takes 2 hours to walk through was built by imperial orders. Hundreds of temples are scattered in Kyoto, and most of the bus/train stations are named according to the temple in the place, however the golden temple , Kyomizudera and the Toji temples are the most touristic. The golden temple (Kinkaku Ji ) is a temple built on water , that is golden in color , as the sun shines it glows in the middle of the lake. I was lucky to arrive there in april , where sakura trees (cherry blossoms) were all ripe , and the place was all covered in these soft pink color , another season in which the trees are wonderful is autumn , where tree leaves takes a spectrum of yellow and red to create a magnificent piece of art.On the technological aspect , I never needed to press a toilet light in japan , it was all by sensors!! Ladder lights too, and the transportation tickets are wifi non contact cards. The buses are silent and so are the trains as no one wants to disturb others.and I would like to finish with the toilet seats , as it was the most amazing part of japan , it warms up in winter and it splashes water , makes a background sound, and always super clean!
