In December 2019, I had the opportunity to participate in the World Youth Forum, organized and by the Egyptian government. The forum was attended by seven thousand young people from 160 countries, who were selected and won scholarships, to discuss important issues for the future of the world, such as the fourth industrial revolution, sustainable development and international security. The event was very enriching in different aspects. First people, for being my first international trip alone, where I went through some problems. One of them was missing the flight due to the company's delay and having to spend 22 hours at Cairo airport, trying to get another flight, in a place where most people cannot speak English.Dealing with this situation, made me understand that when we travel we need to be not only open to experiences, but prepared to deal with stressful situations that are beyond our control, and that even so, we must remain calm and try to make the trip, be the best possible experience. The flight problem became insignificant close to everything I could experience, such as walking around the desert in a square, visiting the pyramids and entering a mosque. As far as professionally, I was able to participate in very important discussions, which were able to add a lot of knowledge on topics that are worldwide relevant, mainly because I study International Relations and I need to be connected with what happens in the world. In addition, the experience of being able to go to Africa, a place so far from Brazil, where at the same time that it has so many cultural differences, manages to have its similarities. Contrary to the negative aspects that most of the media highlights, I was able to see a continent full of riches. I met many young people committed to improving their community, bringing both economic development, with projects to improve the efficiency of agriculture, and social ones, such as the project to empower women in South Sudan. The exchange with people from all over the world, being able to hear their life stories, their leadership projects for a better world and the motivation to believe that young people can make a difference, was very inspiring. I believe that my trip brought a lot of connection not only with the local people, because many participants were from Egypt itself, but with people from other countries in Africa, in addition to the rest of the world such as Paraguay, Russia and the United Kingdom. This is one of the main reasons why I love to travel, not only get to know beautiful places and sights, but you can really get in touch with the local culture, you can meet people and build stories.
