Bid farewell to the hustle and bustle of Dhaka city, And went to this place nestled in the mountains, Also called Scotland of The East; The Meghalayas. Yes, off to the hidden valleys of Shillong I went. For a girl with so many curiosities in her eyes, Yet so little knowledge in her dimensions, I took this journey to rediscover myself. As the roaring sound of engine took me away from Sylhet, The closer I was to Pynursula, my first destination. The plains of Bengal slowly left in the distant horizon, The foothills of Megalaya with sunrays falling onto the beautiful hills welcomed me in her embrace. The humid air of the plains soon replaced by chilly breeze, Which whispered songs of love in my ears while it gently kissed my cheeks. I took a deep breathe, I was grateful for being alive, Grateful for living this day. Couple of churches I passed by, few Khasi people proudly flaunting their dresses, Intricately woven in patterns complex and colours red and white. There was so much this place had to offer, From living root bridges to multitude of waterfall to some of the wettest place on earth. Everything about this place was mysterious but enchanting. Minutes before the last radiance of the sun brightened over the place, I reached my first home stay, Langawat, The Retreat. I hurried out the car and dashed back to a place, Couple of meters backward to what made my heart flutter. Surely couldn’t miss that one moment I knew I had to live. Running and panting at the same time, I reached to this place. By the side of a lake, with the wind sending ripples around the calm lake. Handful of pink houses stood by the edge of the river, Some men fishing on the other side of the lake, While smoking like those chimneys in a cold wintery night. My pink outfit merged perfectly with the place. The golden hour of the sun above the mountain, Ready to embark itself on yet another journey to the other side of the world. Oh, twilight! What a beautiful view it was. I could feel my tummy fill with little butterflies and my heart with flowers and rainbows. It was a moment of happiness I lived for an instant that felt like eons. Despite being brief, even to this day, The moment I lived has found its way to stay, In some corners of my mind I can’t explain. And each time I think about it, My inner self thanks me for living moments such as this.
