I didn't expect to find Greece

It was the summer of 2018, and I was packed and ready to leave to the island of Thassos, Greece. Having previously travelled to the Greek islands of Lefkada, Cephalonia and Zakynthos, I had an idea of what would await. There is something incredibly special about those wild beaches that are hidden between massive rocks, with barely any other people around. It's as if they are yours only, and then everyone else's at the same time. Soon, my daydreams of sunbathing on these hidden gems of nature were going to become a reality. Except, nothing could prepare me for the events that followed next: the very day I was scheduled to leave to Thassos, my entire holiday got cancelled! I was in shock, a state of utter disbelief. For a moment, I thought I might really have to stay in my crowded home city of Belgrade - a place nowhere near my idea of a perfect summer getaway. I wasn't going to let this change of plans ruin everything. We humans usually like to control the world around us, and organise everything up to the smallest details. But, a wise person once told me that control is often an illusion. Learning to ride with the current and let go is one of the most liberating experiences in life. Something was telling me to go anyway. So, I went. Although I had no idea where and how I was going to end up on this island, I believed that my intuition would take me to the right place. Also, I believed in the kindness of strangers. Without them, I wouldn't have made it on this journey. They instructed me which way to go, and where to stay. Whenever I revealed the extent of my predicament, they sympathised with me and offered their much needed help. I didn't expect to find such a cosy and pretty appartment, with a balcony view over Golden Beach - only five minutes away by foot. I have never heard of their traditional walnut candy which is drenched in honey, nor that it was so healthy, and tasted so good. The family which welcomed me in their home was glad to have been able to show me around the island, and reccomend the best places to visit. And finally, after much uncertainty and exploration, I found the smallest wild beach hidden behind a dense Greek forest. It barely had space for six people, but nobody knew about it - so it was just me. It was even more magnificent than anything I had ever daydereamed about. Only mine, and everyone else's at the same time.
