Train no. 653 The Train That Has Never Returned 🚂 On the gruesome night of dec 22nd 1964 the train no. 653 while entering dhanuskodi railway station with 110 passengers and 5 railway staff on board, was hit by a massive tidal wave 🌊 A few meters ahead of dhanuskodi the signal failed, with pitch darkness around and no indication of the signal, the driver blew a long whistle and decided to take the risk ❌ Few minutes later a huge tidal wave submerged all the six coaches in deep water and killed all the peoples on board. In total 1800 people died in that cyclone, all houses and other structures of the town were marooned and deserted. Naval vessels sent to rescue people reported seeing several bloated bodies in the sea. Following this disaster the gov. Of Madras declared dhanuskodi a ghost town. Beautiful yet abandoned.. . . 😔sad but true. This place will flabbergast you with amazing views....... One side indian ocean with the most notorious waves and other side Bay of bengal sea plunged into calmness...... Two oceans portraying different aspects of life in the most amazing way. If you ever get a chance to visit such a beautiful landscape ... Don't miss that change... It is a life changing experience, which will astonish you for the lifetime. In my trip to Tamilnadu... Dhanushkhodi the ghost town... Has a very special place which will remain on the top In the list of my most favorite places in India. While coming back from Dhanushkhodi I was thinking about the beauty of dhanuskhodi.
