A leap into the unknown Uruguay

If you're planning to go to South America and pass by Uruguay, I'm sure that you decided to stay in the capital Montevideo and maybe visit Punta del Este, the most popular cities in this country. This two cities have lot of things to offer to tourists, of course. The capital is where the history and culture are, with museums, plazas and theaters. The second, few hours away, contain beaches, casinos and luxurious hotels and clubs to spend the time. What people don't tell us is there's a magical, small, restrict acess, with no eletric lights, stunning and unique place that you have to visit in the coast of Uruguay: Cabo Polonio. Some hours away of the capital Montevideo, by car or bus in the highway until the entrance of Cabo Polonio, you have to stop. That's because this is only a bus station with parking, it's not our final destination. After this, the only way possible to access the village is buying a ticket and wait to a type of open bus/truck to pick you up. After more or less than a half hour in the truck, going up and down in the sand (there's no even a real road to access the spot) you can start to see the little and rustic houses. There's no cars in this village, only the trucks that came with the visitors. Arriving, you start to walk in the streets, all of them made only with sand. Now you already can start to be consumed by a hippie vibe. Lots of the locals live by selling handmade stuff like arts or souvenirs, so you'll find it everywhere you go. Walking a little more, until you see the beach, you'll find some bars and restaurants, most of them with good price, but if you seek a little bit more, you can find a couple of them more sofisticate. Don't get me wrong, but if you're looking for really sofisticate things, here you're not gonna find, the vibe is roots, peace and love. After a bath in the ocean and some bavarages, is time to explore. Going to the right in the beach, you can see so many big rocks that you can walk trough them, very fun, specially for the kids, the adults can strike a pose and take some beautiful pictures. At this point, you already saw the lighthouse by far, but wait, you'll have to see some other things first in the way: seals and sealions. They stay in a protected part of the rocks, sunbathing like no one was watching. Ok, now you can visit the lighthouse. If you're already tired after all the adventures you think that is too much work going up all the stairs, that's because you haven't seen the view yet. I don't have to say that is totally stunning, you can imagine. This place is so amazing that have more or less than 300 regular people living in this village with no eletric lights, so the sky at night is really something, you can see so many stars that you don't even though it was possible. Ok, time to go home if you don't pretend to spend the night. One day in Cabo Polonio is one of days you won't forget in your lifetime.
