droplets of sweats dripping down my forehead due to the scorching sun as i sit in the rickety bus in the local motor park terminal waiting for passengers and commuters to fill the car to start a five hours journey, a journey expected through dusty untarred, tarred and dilapidated road, the arduous journey begins, through communities, cities, bush paths, solitary roads, mountains and rivers with birds chipping, sheep bleeting, our bus has to stop at a point for a herd of elephant crossing the road. it was an exciting site. Stop the damn bus and sounds of gun shots rented the air, just as the driver reached a sharp bend, oh it is the men of the under world, i mused, as i saw more than half a dozen men armed to the teeth, mostly dressed in black attires that made them seem vicious. "if anybody misbehave i will kill because we are here on serious business, not a joke, you must cooperate" bellowed the suspected gang leader, dressed in a military uniform, i wondered if he is or was a military man gone rogue. "everybody out of the bus, submit your money, phones and every valuables, do not act smart or you die" said the smallest member of the gang in stature, probably 14 to 16 years of age, dressd in black gown, with charms worn around his neck, and something diabolic tied to his AK 47 rifle. "all the fine girls make all of una come for this area make we chop una" said the most corpulent and bizarre looking gang member in a Nigerian "pidgin English" threatening to rape them. some of the girls where released while about three were held back. Albeit, there were released few minutes later with their heads in their hands, one can only imagine what they went through in hands of these blood thirsty miscreants. After close to an hour of silence, Everybody on transit was lamenting, having lost money and valuables, but thankfully no life was lost. while everyone was counting their losses and blaming the armed robbers alone, i also blame the government for her remiss towards the masses or common man due to high level of unemployment and poverty in the land, which has increased insecurity, the bad road also made it simple for also hoodlums to lay ambush for unsuspecting motorists. Corruption has reduced our society to a time bomb, a dynamite ready to explode. when travelling, you no longer pray for safe trip due to bad road alone abut also for armed robbers, bandits and kidnappers. lost in thought i fell asleep in the bus, tired, disheveled and dispirited. "wake up bro, we have arrived" said the driver, during the short nap i had a night mare that made me even more afraid as i alighted the bus.
