It was a scrambling time. When the time slice available for me to leap, grab the ticket and just go. The destination this time is Nepal. Found the mysterious journey that may be uncommon to the common people. Trekking to the Everest Base Camp. Climb to more than 5000 meter height to the sky. It was winter, but early. Early December it was. Expecting the trek route will be somewhat empty. With much surprise, finally arrived in dusty Khatmandu. The expectation is traffic jam, but considered not much, in comparison to Jakarta. And was delivered to the hotel in the heart of Thamel. Luckily, thousand shops nearby catering food to the various trekking equipment. In the extreme case, anyone without preparation can just fly to Khatmandu, and bought or rent the equipment there. The easiest destination to go to Everest Base Camp is via Lukla. A remote and nerve-breaking airport located in the slope of the mighty mountain. Only few hundred meters of tarmac is available for daily commuting small airplane. Therefore, the trekkers were gathered early morning in Khatmandu, to catch the glimpse of fair weather for airplane to land in Lukla. Any later during the day, it will be difficult to steer the airport safely. And it was very cold indeed in Lukla. I went to the tea house near the Lukla airport. Feeling surprise, since I was the only guest there. And I was alone, so nobody there. But the tea house lady pleasantly making special breakfast for me. And I was introduced to the ginger tea, a hot beverage to cure the cold and loneliness in the Himalayan region. The trekking finally started, only few hours during the day, with very comfortable rest in the tea house along the way. The locals were nice and easy to converse, although they already used to live in the cliff and just suffering from eartquake several years ago. With no fanfare, during the snowfall of Himalayan winter, finally arrived in the Everest Base Camp after trekking along rocky steps. Enjoying my loneliness. And quickly back to the tea house. The trekking back to Lukla is even faster, since it was downhill. Just walk and walk to the destination. Without fanfare.
