Deutschland, the Father Land; my experience of traveling this European country is wunderbar. Clean, beautiful and punctual, I'm fortunate to have back packed in Germany when I had the metabolism for kaese spaetzle, bratwurst, sauerkraut, hearty breads, and BEER! In a land with a harsh history, the people are friendly and helpful; I yearn to return, but alas other destinations have also seductively beckoned. A drive through the German towns, with buildings built to last; and flower boxes in the window sills are evidence that aesthetics have obvious value. One can hit the tourist sites or head off the beaten paths; trains will get you just about anywhere and a fantastic way to take in the countryside. Southern Bavaria is a treasure trove of culture and a visit to King Ludwig's (or crazy King Ludwig, to those in the know) castle, set in the middle of an island on Lake Chiemsee, is must see! Opulent is an understatement, a visual gift to any who visit. Whether travel plans are made for winter, or summer (spring, or fall) there will be no lack of things to do. Skiing is phenomenal and tiny tots can be seen careening down the mountain with the experts. There are plenty of water sports for summer visitors or perhaps hand gliding is your favored way to see such awesome beauty. Think you are beer connoisseur? The Germans know a thing or two about a good brew. As flight prices are falling, book a ticket now to see Germany for the first time; or perhaps the Bavarian alps are requesting a reunion with this country of extreme beauty and culture; I will be checking out a travel itinerary; hope to see you there!!
